VPI CLEANING A 10" RECORD & ACETATES

2 Questions for a VPI. Can you clean a 10" record with a regular 12"
vacum tube?
I was told if you wrap the part over the vinyl in saran wrap, then you
can do
it? Also, can you clan an Acetate record with a VPI? thanks

Re: VPI CLEANING A 10" RECORD & ACETATES

I would think you could clean a 10" record with the VPI. I have a 16.5.
However, are the labels on the 10" records smaller than the 12" records? If
so, I wouldn't get any cleaning fluid in the area near the label where the
machine cannot suck up the fluid.

As far as acetate records, I THINK I read somewhere that alcohol in most
record cleaning fluids can damage an acetate record (that may have been for
lacquer records, I'm not sure). I'd try deionized or distilled water first
and see if it cleans them ok. If not, I might try a little (and I do mean
little) detergent in deionized water. I have some lab detergents normally
used in labs for cleaning glassware that I use to make record cleaning
fluids. If you don't have access to that, I might try a few drops of dish
detergent in a lot of DI water. After vacuuming that up, then I'd do a
second cleaning with just DI water to remove any remaining detergent.
