This is not a "For sale" newsgroup, nor are Ebay auctions permitted.

Seller: audio.hut( 9 )
Feedback: 100% Positive

Offered for sale is a wonderful pair (two pieces) of vintage McIntosh
C8 mono preamplifiers (Record Compensator), each uses 3 pieces of
12AX7 tubes. The one in wood cabinet is in gorgeous condition inside
and out. The faceplate is particularly clean and shiny; case is in
excellent shape too. Some scratches on the wood cabinet. The second
one is not in wood cabinet; not as good as the first one but quite
decent too. The pictures show some white stuff on some knobs of the
2nd preamp. That is just kind of chalk, and can be cleaned easily.

All knobs are original. Tubes are mix of makes.

These preamps draw power from Mac power amps. The power cords
(unbelievably thick) for that purpose are included. There is another
AC power cord that powers the AC sockets in the back. One is good and
the other one is essentially all gone. I am selling them untested, and
in "as is" condition.

Personal check or money order. No Paypal. Some recent buyers won my
listings and forced me to use Paypal. Please, if you intend to use
Paypal only, do no bid on my listings.

On what authority do you say that mention of eBay auctions is not
permitted on this news group? I suggest you familiarize yourself with
the charter for this group, you can find a copy in the "CFV" here:

You may want to check eBays TOS and rules about spamming Usenet, and
the fact it is *NOT* allowed.

I took a look at eBay's rules as you suggested, and there are two
problems with your statement above. The first problem is that eBay
doesn't even mention the term "usenet" any where in their rules, at
least their search function says something to the effect that no
information is available on "usenet". They do however have a lot of
rules relating to "spam" on other venues, which assuming the anti "spam"
rules apply to "usenet", raises the interesting question of what the
formal definition of "spam" might be? One man's "spam" is often another
man's treasure, in the case of "usenet" it appears that people are prone
to call most any post they don't like "spam".

Exactly, an ad for a private person selling something he owns, used
to a group that does not allow any ads at all is not spam, it's abuse.
Now that said the charter as quoted does not forbid ads. Commercial ads
to Usenet are abuse anyway whether the charter says so or not unless the
group is for that, ie: rec.audio.marketplace. In the groups I attend it
is generally accepted that an individual can offer something for sale,
though as a general rule it's not something that happens all the time.
If it does happen and you are selling stuff every week, you've crossed
the line into more commercial than private. That is generally decided by
the regular member of whichever group. If the people of a group want all
ads banned from that group, they should officially ad that to the
charter/FAQs and said document needs to be posted regularly to the
group. I might also note that it takes more than two complaints to
action any account, even an eBay account.

Interesting, you seem to be implying that people can effectively modify
a groups charter by simply posting a FAQ regularly that includes the
rule(s) they believe should be in effect for the group.

No no no. I'm saying that the charter needs to be posted regularly.
And I am also saying if it does not say what the majority of the regular
members want it to say, they need to get it amended. Nether point has
much to do with the other. But if you post it regularly and it does not
say that private ads a not allowed, many ISP abuse desks are going to
take that at face value. Now if someone posts a private ad for different
stuff every three days or even every week, that becomes abuse.

You may want to check the definition of "spam."

You may want to check eBay's definition of spam. That's the one that counts. But
it's not relevant here anyway.

The eBay rules regarding Usenet posting is not their spam policy, it's their Usenet
Policy.

That raises the question of what eBay considers "inappropriate or
violates the Usenet board policy"? From the wording of eBay's
"usenet_policy" it sounds like they don't have a blanket prohibition
against eBay related posts.

It's March and there are no BB games running right now that I know of.
We can get more results yelling at eBay posts than disturbing posters
that come and go at their leisure.

That's about it. There will be a Frankenstein to curdle our blood in a
couple days' time.

Don't think they do, after all the sellers I've watched.

Don't swear at grumpy buyers and don't be from Upper Slobododia
embarrassing us in the the name of funding the Slobodh rebels selling

Correct. It goes by the official charter of the particular group. In
the Mustang group a private owner can mention his car for sale. A dealer
can not. I can offer a set of headers for sale, Texas Mustang and Resto
can not. There are also general Usenet FAQs on the web that iterate what
is and is not appropriate. Also, keep in mind how many minimum wage
clerks on the other end of eBay's abuse address have even heard of
Usenet or know what it is. I called to report an outage to Cox and it
took 3 people before I found one that had the first clue what I was
talking about.
