The Oppo website clearly states that their equipment is primarily
intended to be used through the HDMI connection, and this is repeated in
the directions that come with the player. Despite this I bought a 980H
for use as an analog source feeding a rather old, but rather well liked
2 channel setup. I did this because of the tremendous hype surrounding
the product and the favorable reviews given to it as an analog source.
All I can say is that I'm glad Amazon . com has customer friendly return
policies. My opinion is that anyone interested in using the 980H through
analog outputs should buy it from a source with customer friendly return
policies. Either that or judge it on the media hype and not the sound
you hear with your own ears.
