Very Very Basic Audio problem question

Very Very Basic Audio problem question

Voice and music have suddenly become fuzzy/muffled from the speakers.
This is identical whether a CD is playing or radio is coming though.

The tuner-amp is fairly new and the speakers are good quality.

It is not the harsh buzz you get if a ground wire comes loose. Fine
tuning / adjustment on the tuner makes no difference.

The speaker cables are secure.

Help! Any suggestions?

Ah. Thank you. I'm glad I came to the experts. But yes, my own
helpless question reminds me of this story:

Woman comes into hospital, asks doctor what's wrong with her husband.
Doctor: But where is he?
Woman: He's at home, but I've brough his urine sample so you could
figure it out.
Doctor: What is your husband's occupation?
Woman: He's a tailor.
Doctor goes behind curtain, then reappears with a bottle of pee.
Doctor: Give this to your husband and ask him to make me a suit.

Ah. Thank you. I'm glad I came to the experts.

hook the speakers to a known good diffrnt system , if the problem follows
the speakers then have the speakers fixed
if the speakers sound fine on the known good system

Check your output transistors, if you don't know how, take it in for
service

There are many things that could be causing the problem, and your
description is utterly and totally useless in providing the information
needed for any sort of an accurate diagnosis.

For example... Have you substituted another amp or another pair of speakers
to see which component is the source of the problem? No? Then don't complain
about "experts" not being able to tell you what's wrong.

I would _like_ to think that you turned up the volume to the point of severe
amplifier clipping and blew the tweeters. That's my classical-music
snobbishness coming through, because classical listeners rarely blow out
their speakers.

The tweeters are blown. One of the power supply legs on the amp is blown.
Some of the output transistors are blown. A woofer is torn. A woofer
is scraping from having been overheated. The fuses on the tweeters blew
to protect them.

Thanks you to everyone for their prompt replies. I have not visited
this newsgroup before. I shall follow each suggestion until it is
fixed, OR until my Lotto comes up and I spend it all on NAGRA.

Spend it on Viagra. You'll have a better result, or at least
something more in line with your expectations.

All good fortune,

Gentlemen, at our ages, any woman not upfront interested solely
in philosophy or bank account just isn't being truthful. Fortunately
for us, philosophy can be misspelled and still sold to the Y
chromosome deprived.

God Bless the XX chromosome amongst us.

Mister Silverton just brought me a semi-living mouse. Yummy.
He eats 'em head first, and leaves typically the back
third. Nope, it's dead. Thanks, God, for the break. Killing
an injured mouse or bird is a Mala Noche.

A real woman is just as obvious, but (hopefully) meaner.

Much thanks, as always,

Both channels, both speakers? Have you other speakers you can swap
in? Have you done anything that might have blown the tweeters in both
speakers? Did you enjoy the character analysis of several RAP
regulars with which you have just been presented?:-)
