Post Subject:

What determines the audio quality of a variable-density optical audio track within the film itself?

Hi:

Variable-density was used to record sound into the those old B&W films
before variable-area was invented. I like VD better than VA.

What characteristics in the film material itself [e.g. the chemicals
within the film, "grains", etc. etc.] determines the audio quality [e.g.
the bandwidth, dynamic range, SNR, clipping point, treble response, etc.
etc.] of a VD track?

Thanks,

Radium

If you wish to be taken seriously, you won't crosspost
into r.a.o. But perhaps you don't wish to be taken seriously.

In the latter case, perhaps you could exercize the restraint
of *not* multiply reposting the same bait. All us fishes
done seen it the first time.

And, Jeez Louise, get a friggin grip.
All good fortune,

Chris Hornbeck
