New 91A amp

New 91A amp

Hi RATs,

I put up a page for a new amp I built.

* w w w .timebanditaudio . com /Harald%20van%20Haaren%20Amp/vanHaaren300B.html

If the link doesn't work go to my main page at
* w w w .timebanditaudio . com /timebandit.html and go to the bottom of
the page.

This one sounds really nice. Zero audible hum.

Best regards,

Raymond

Excellent presentation of a beautifully built amp. Thanks.

cheers, Ian

** The tiny switches ( and very thin wiring) used for AC power switching
worry me - or have you used them to operate hefty relays ?

The switch on surge of that big Hammond power tranny is in the order of 150
amps peak.

Shame the schematic deletes such details nor shows the DC heater regulators
at all.

No relays and I've done this before without problems. This is the first
time for me to use DC heaters so they're omitted from my schematic.
They're made by Tent Labs in Eindhoven, NL.

** Then you are a complete fool.

Your choice of such miniature switches and thin gauge wiring are just
terrible - it smacks of the worst sort of amateurism.

Those mini switches are NOT rated or approved for AC mains power
switching, at all.

Something like this one from Apem is the go:

* au.farnell . com /1082324/electrical-circuit-protection/product.us0?sku=apem-631h-2&_requestid=11675

I beg your pardon. They are rated at 250V 3A.

** Those mini switches are NOT rated or safety approved for AC mains power
switching, at all - mainly because creepage and clearance distances are not
large enough.

PLUS the 150 amp surge current at switch on in your amp is way beyond the
switches ratings.

Why on earth did you chose them ????????

Hello Raymond. Things are quiet, here on RAT,
no-one seems to be building anything at all, and
then, hey-presto, your link to a beautifully crafted
project appears.

Congratulations!

You are the second person I know who has used the
Tent labs DC modules. These are something I also
want to try.

When you get around to it, some test figs would
be of interest.

Best regards
Iain

Thanks Iain. What sort of test figures do you want?

Hello Raymond. FR (at 1W) would be of interest and
THD fig at full power. Also Zout, and noise floor.

An amp is not complete without a test sheet and
a set of performance graphs:-))

There is a list of the tests I use at:
* w w w .kolumbus.fi/iain.churches/TubeAmpEvaluation/TubeAmpEvaluation.html

This page is not complete.
Any (constructive) comments welcomed

Regards to all

Iain

Re: New 91A amp

Shame to put all that work into something with a crappy circuit like the
WE 91.

How could the circuit be improved, short of going push=pull?
