going to the sun road in Glacier national Park

Hi all
I'm planning a trip this summer which includes travelling through Glacier
National park in Northern Montana.
I am wondering if anyone has travelled the 'going to the sun road' and
whether it makes any difference which direction the road is travelled as far
as the scenery is concerned. It's more convenient for me to travel from west
to east but if it really makes a difference, I'll make some route changes.
Thanks

The west section is (a bit) more scenic but overall this is a great
road with a postcard view at every curve feeling. The only drawback is
that it is very busy in the summer months, even on weekdays; forget
riding there on weekend unless you crave for a bumper to bumper
experience. Your only hope is to hit the trail early in the morning
(07:00) at either end, but you will quickly get surrounded by 10:00.

Ditto.

I've done it a few times both ways (this sentence needs context, let me try
again). I have travelled East to West and West to East a few times and
there was no difference in my opinion. You will get stuck behind a camper
going 10 miles an hour. Best thing to do is just stop at one of the rest
areas and take in the scenery.

The west-bound lane is the inside lane. You *want* the inside lane.

Thanks for your post
Great website and breathtaking pics.
I bought a gl1500 for a trip from Ottawa. Ontario to Utah and back in 2004.
I got some beautiful pics as well. Trip was just over 11,300kms.
I had intended to see the Rockies and Glacier Ntl park but the weather
forced me south before hitting Sask.
This is my trip to see what I missed the first time.

"Going to the Sun" is a very busy road. If you want to have any fun
on it, you will be out passing the whole time, if you can. A much
better road, in my opinion, is on the west side of Lake Koocanusa.
>From Eureka, we travelled south to the Libby Dam and back to Eureka.
It was ~190 kilometers (total for the two ways) of excellent pavement,
zero traffic (zero - we were the only ones on the road) and probably
600 or so third gear curves. I loved it! There is also a road on the
east side of Koocanusa but there were some logging trucks using it.
