Test Ride report

2006 Buell Ulysees.

As promised I test rode a 2006 Uly, with 4000 miles on it, today, at
Glendale Harley. What a hoot! It makes the R1200GS I tested rode seem
pedestrian at best. Plenty of torque, power and a whale of fun, even at my
current weight. We rode up behind Griffith Park and into the park's 25mph
twisties. I slowed to let the leader get far enough ahead of me so I could
blast into the twisties and then slow down. What fun! She also ran well on
the 134 freeway, where I blasted the Dealer's representative at 100+. When
we got back to the dealership he thanked me and said that it was a real fun
ride for him, unusual foir a test ride, and shook my hand. I told him I
wanted to see every aspect of the power band and sunspension set-ups this
bike had to offer.
What a great bike. The GS pales by comparison. Now I know what you guys mean
when a bike has "soul".

What I didn't like was the handle bar position compared to the seat height.
As I was bent kinda forward. Well, with a lower seat ( At 6'1", I was on
tippy toes), that can be remedied.

So, the deal was right for a brand new 2006 and the rest is history.

Woot!

I haven't ridden like that in years. ext up, some goat paths in Death
Valley. Or maybe a ghost town or two.

Congrats!

Soooo, will it make the trip to Moab in June? I'll be taking the
1150GS Adventure and there will be several other dual sports having
fun too.

I don't know yet if the Uly would make it to MOAB. Well, I guess it would.
It's me on it that I'm not sure about.
No helmet laws in Utah, right?
Cool.

Yes bring it to Moab!

Why is that? Vibration? Lack of windscreen? Noise?

I am hoping to test ride one May 2nd on the track out here in Utah. I've
got my reservation set for a Buell track day / test ride day at the local
track.

Yep, no helmets required in Utah.

No, I'm spoiled by the K1200GT and The Road King.
The RK especially, it's like riding a couch.

I meant no offense to the GS riders here. The Uly was about 6K cheaper and
it could be had with bags, as the new 2007 GS can't.

I'm sure that "pedestrian" feeling I got riding the GS is equal to 600 mile
days. My RT was like that.
I'm not sure I could do that kind of day on the Ulysees, it's a pretty raw
bike..

Especially after doing 500 mile days on the BMW's and the Road King.

8^) LOL try that on a stone stock not even an
after market windshield GL1000. I was comfy on
that stiff park bench of a seat and an upright in
the wind seating...then again what do I know I'm
crazy.

I took no offense! Hell, it's your bike and you will be the one
putting the miles on it. If it blows your skirt up, go for it and
enjoy. I mean, it's not like you bought a Harley.

Oh, wait.......

Y'know, it's really not true what they say about "the man with the
most toys wins."

But I think I see your problem, and it's obvious you're working hard
to fix it. You have too much money.

To his credit, Thumper is addressing his problem (cough) exactly as
I would do it, in a sort of poor man's Jay Leno stylee.
