2 stroke oil

I have been running Marine 2 stroke oil for years in a boat and two
motorcycles, never had any problems so I know its not hurting them. I had a
discussion in another group where no one agreed on the difference between
motorcycle and Marine oil. Anyone know what that is?

A quick google search revealed this:

Water cooled motors run a lot cooler than air cooled motors. The
difference in the oil specs deals with the temperature at which ash
forms when the oil burns. Ash is abrasive. Air cooled oil is more
resistant to forming ash. If you use Marine oil in an air cooled motor,
you run the risk of forming ash and increasing the wear rate of the
engine internals.

(who just cut and pasted, I have no real knowledge, I just dump whatever 2
stroke oil I can get into the bikes)

As both of our bikes are watered cooled and I think all 2 stroke dirt bike
are now then I will assume it ios ok. My uncle used to make his own 2 stroke
oil when he was young (50s-60s) and said everyone did.
