Thanks for the link Robert. Great pictures. Well maybe not great for
those involved, but they sure highlight the potential problem.

As an expert bike crasher, I can tell you that sometimes when you fix
on a target (like a tree or, uh, rock), it can be very difficult to
get the brain to unfreeze and push forward on the appropriate grip
(the left in this case).

It does look like a simple weave job to avoid the truck. I've had to
do the same on occasion on the little rural lanes in my area. There
really is nothing like seeing a big vehicle come around a blind curve
or over a blind hill on your side of the road.

Shit happens. I'm not going to throw stones at that guy.

The big problem is to ignore the killer object coming at you
and, instead, focus your vision on where you need to go -
ie, damn the torpedoes - drive the bike - or something like
that. It is the only chance you are going to get.

My natural reaction is to freeze up physically, so I can relate. I've yet
to freeze up to the point I couldn't do what I needed to do but I've read
of a few people who died when they froze from taking a corner too hot.

The rear wheels follow in the tracks of the front. The front bumper is
~4' in front of the front wheel. The rear bumper is ~10' behind the
rear wheel, ergo it sticks out farther when it goes around a turn.

If I'm not mistaken , the trailer will tend to follow the
connection point, IE the REAR of the truck portion of the rig,
regardless of where the FRONT of the truck IE steering tires are /
were. Also, centrifugal force, as related to / generated by speed,
will swing it wider still. IOW, a very slow moving T/T will follow a
tighter path at the ass end than a fast moving T/T tracking the same
curve.

IOW, take the 'worst case' point of the truck ( the rear ),
and add some according to speed.

But, whatever - the point being, T/T's obviously simply don't
belong on the Dragon or similar roads, regardless of the presence or
absence of motorcycles.

Re: I want to do this ride

Trailers tend to track to the inside. That is why trucks take turns
wide and why you don't want to be to the left of one in the left turn
lanes at a traffic light. I've seen trailers ride over the median at
the Rt 1 & Rt 202 intersection in Delaware County PA more than once.

My watching of it... there was a trailer behind the
truck that was still swinging around. You can ask
the guy, he's replying to comments on his YT vid.

I was going to say that. -And- he was driving too fast, beyond his
range of vision.

That could be closer to the truth, but then I imagine most of the riders
on that road go there for the express purpose of going faster than their
range of vision would suggest. I could see him starting to lean into the
corner, having to stand it up and brake thanks to the truck taking his
lane, then deciding he's still got too much speed to cut back into the
corner. Smacking his head on the edge of the trailer as he hugged the
outer edge might have been on his mind too.

He didn't leave himself enough of a cushion for the possible conditions,
that's for sure. You'd think a vehicle that could stay on its side of the
double yellow wouldn't be allowed to use the road.

It was, in fact, illegal for the truck to be there.
I read this in the comments.

Illegal or not, those huge semis *do* use the Dragon all the time. So
a prudent rider would allow for their presence, the legalities won't
matter when you're squashed like a bug on a Kenworth's radiator...
