Dean,
This might be a way to get part of your "potential trip to Arkansas"
expenses reimbursed.

Dave,
Have any friends traveling to Arkansas in the near future? I'm 300
miles east of Dallas, and 70 miles east of Tetragonal.

Other than that, I used a crate from a motorcycle shop and delivered
the crate to Forward Air Trucking. Forward Air shipped it to a
terminal near my customer.

If you rent one of FA's motorcycle crates, be prepared to pay
through the nose. If you use any other carrier, be prepared to pay
through the nose.
In fact, just be prepared to pay through the nose.

One more option, would be to contact one of those folks with a "hot
shot" rig, who carry bikes in an open trailer coast to coast.

Good Riding and Shipping to You!

I'm shipping a plywood box (608lbs)
FedEx freight from CLE to Minisoooota for 90 bucks
<it's large enough to house a full sized bike>
if you can find a shipper that has a dock & a discount
you should be able to ship it dock to dock for $<150
couple years back I shipped a bike for $79 from
Arkansas to Ohio...

if you go to a motorcycle shipper and use their marked
up stuff.. you find the pricing closer to 400 clams

john
build your own box, find a friend that ships stuff daily via Semi-Trucks

Thanks for the good information.
Sorry, I won't be in Arkansas in the near future as I'm here in CT on
assignment.
As far as the box, that would be a great idea if I was in Dallas, but
I kind of need to do most of this long distance. Yuck.

Damn, I hope I can get this done in the near future for a decent
price. Some places quoted me $700+ dollars for shipping. If I do a
round trip that will cost me more than the bikes worth.

Thanks again

Dave

I think you might have found your answer. Buy a $1,400 bike and plan to sell
it before you go home.
How long are you here? Wherabouts?

Yea, it sounds logical, but I don't have my tools here to work on a
bike and my bike is in good solid condition. Don't need another
project.
It shouldn't need much work for the summer.
I'm here in Easton CT which is an hour up the coast from NYC and I'm
maybe up until the end of the year.

I'll keep thinking a bout your suggestion.

Cheers

Dave

I spent most of my life in Weston. I know some good riding near you. Do the
woods look tempting?

Yes they do. Unfortunately, I took my aggressive knobbies off and put
80-20 tires on it so I can use it in both road and dirt. It gets a
little slippery with those tires in the mud.
I've got another set of rims with the good tires mounted so it's an
easy change, but I don;t think that I will bring the other set of
tires up here.

Still I need a way to get the bike up here without spending a ton of
money.

You'll find it's a lot less $$ if you ship motorcycle "parts" instead
of a "motorcycle". Take the wheels and handlebars off, strap it to a
pallet and wrap the pallet in plywood. The money you save will be more
than enough to buy a few tools to put it back together.

Oh well, we'll have to take you on a dry day. And skip the Widowmaker.
Easton and Redding have some nice dualsporting roads to be sure. Plenty of
fun exploring there
Some nice day take a spin over to Valley Forge Road in Weston and follow
that along the reservoir. Even in a boring car, that road is a lot of fun

Are you working with that two letter giant corporate headquarters company
there? Maybe they can throw it in one of their over the road shipments.
That's the least they could do for you.

My butt just aches thinking of that. I've got the original factory
seat and it's not to comfortable.

I think the disassemble idea is great, but I'm here in connecticut and
don't have the time to fly back to dallas and build a crate and put
the bike into it.
Maybe on the way back to dallas I'll do that.

I'm just hoping to find a good shipper for $400 or so. I may be SOL
for that.
