Sierra Club Hypocrisy

Sierra Club Hypocrisy

It seems as though the Sierra Club hikers don't like staying on
designated trails...

"Hike leader Andy Serrano, who sponsors an evening "boot camp" for the
hardiest hikers, said a trail is a trail, with many undesignated paths
leading to stairways, bridges and other man-made features.

In some areas, he said, the unofficial trails are the only way to get
from place to place, as from Lake Hollywood to Mount Cahuenga.

"I'm a fast hiker, but I don't blaze new trails," Serrano said. He
added that, without the sporting element, many hikers would rather
stay home. "They won't come. I wouldn't come.

"I'd go to the gym, where there are pretty girls in leotards," he
said. "The smaller trails ... are very steep. You do some technical
climbing. There are rocks. They're more challenging.

"The fire trails are like a sidewalk. There's absolutely nothing
interesting there."

Here's the full story on how they are thrashing Griffith Park.

The full story says you lied. The Sierra Club has the integrity to
criticize their own errant hike leaders.

""Where I take issue is where Sierra Club hike leaders are taking
shortcuts and creating new trails," said Louis Alvarado, honorary mayor
of Griffith Park and longtime Sierra Club hike coordinator."

"An official from the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club said hikers are
instructed to keep out of burn areas and stay on official Griffith Park
trails."

"'We're trying our best,' said Virgil Shields, an executive member of
the club's Angeles Chapter, adding it's hard to police 1,000 hike
leaders and 50,000 local members."

"The Sierra Club always has respect for the outdoors. We've made it a
point to protect Griffith Park. We've told our leaders not to hike
through burn areas. ... We tell our leaders to stay out of unofficial
trails."

"Many Sierra Club hike leaders say leaders of some of the fastest
organized hikes cause some of the greatest damage."

Hi Beryl,

Are you saying the Sierra Club has their version of quads? I'm appalled
that the Sierra Club hasn't yanked their club membership. Us gas powered
low lifes need some guidance by example.

Sheesh!

They always seem to get pissed off when I ride my dirt bike on their
precious John Muir trail. Normaly I don't like to run into people,
especially backpackers, but when they start throwing rocks and
screaming obscenities at me I make exceptions. OF

Woodschick distorts the story. She labels the whole organization as
hypocrites by picking out hike leader Andy Serrano, representing him as
"the Sierra Club hikers", and omitting facts which don't fit her agenda.

The article was pretty fairly balanced. Woodschick wouldn't have written
it that way.

The whole org is a bunch of hypocrites!!!! They say one thing and live
their lives differently. While there may be a few that follow what they
preach most do not. They drive big cars and live in houses that don't
conform to saving the enviroment (their misguided notion of it anyway).
Beryl if you are in support of them you have wandered in to the wrong
newsgroup. Most here hate the org because of what they represent and their
lies to accomplish their goals. Please state you position on the Sierra
Club.

Sounds about like ORV enthusiasts, who put on the phony "tread lightly"
public face, but show up here with their real attitudes.

Pot <-> Kettle

Care to discuss the supposed eco-terrorist how-to guide that illustrates
how to rig up booby traps to maim and kill dirtbikers? You know the one,
written by dirtbikers.

> Please state you position on the Sierra Club.

Not overly familiar with them, or with any conservation groups. I'm not
a joiner.

You won't hear me stating anything like that, but just like a Sierra
Clubber wacko you assume instead of getting the facts, typical. Even though
you say your not a "joiner" you have already conformed to the rhetoric of
that movement so you have shown you are a "joiner" just unwilling to pay.
Haaa so typical.

So your just a holier than the masses guy on your own, again typical. On
top of that your a troll, coming into a dirtbike newsgroup and spouting of
your opinion of what is good for the world. With that <Plonk> welcome to my
kill file.

Irony... great!

Unfamiliar with the rhetoric (other than what's, er, rather inaccurately
offered up here), so I couldn't have conformed. "That movement" might
have conformed though. Coincidence is a strong possibility too.

> so you have shown you are a "joiner" just

I've never bothered to look for any forums or newsgroups on "that
movement." Been at this group though, sporadically, for more years than
I can remember. I don't know why, not much that I gain from it.

Sure it's typical! Especially in America. But that's human nature, huh?
Witness CTDummy as another typical example, one proud Christian with his
Christian common sense, and no moral conflicts between the two. Unlike
those lost followers of inferior religions.

If you are so unfamiliar with the rhetoric, then how could you possibly know
whether what is "offered up here" is inaccurate or not?

Then please, by all means end your spurious self-absorbed frustrations and
don't let the door hit you in the puss on the way out.

Clearly... your parents doomed you the life of a petty snickering asshole
in the corner of real discussions when they gave you that name. I'm sorry.
And, I noticed you didn't deal with the direct quote from the Sierra web
site encouraging the membership to lie... got a problem with data, asshole?

Speaking of pots, all you're trying to do is stir it, so fuck off and
everyone else... forget this asshole. I actually used to teach logic and
spent more than enough time in academic environments where idiots like
Beryl thought they could make headway by trying to keep arguments moving
forward with their shallow, formulaic and unsophisticated sets of little
Logic 101 tricks. Wanna argue God's existence too asshole? I'll take either
side, put away two bottles of wine and then pound your fag-ass into the
ground because it's clear YOU GOT NOTHING and I've forgotten more about
that shit than you ever knew.

As to the edification of others rather than as a direct reply to the next
guy going into my kill file... the booby trap guild to which he refers was
something most dirtbikers saw when it was posted on Offroad . com in
1999-2000. I saved my copy in April/2000 but it had been around a while.
Beryl's off the cuff assertion it's a smoke screen created by dirtbikers is
another cheap distraction. Dirtbikers ARE TOO FUCKING LAZY, Dumbo... It's
not their style. And one of the tenets of applied decision theory is avoid
the complicated explanation when there's a simple one. It's a stretch to
assume the document in question was created by the nut-cases from Earth
First and Earth Liberation Front? You know Beryl... the dorks that burned
down ski resorts and houses? The ones that spiked timber crops? The ones
whose tag line is: "No Compromise in the Defense of Mother Earth!"? The
ones lead by that Manson like head-case Forman who's history of memorable
statements includes "humans as a cancer on nature" and "let the starving
Ethiopians die because their numbers swelled to unsustainable levels or who
solicited terminally ill people to act as "Eco-Kamikazes" and who
identifies himself as an "eco warrior"? REAL leap of faith to believe that
guide was fabricated by the single laziest and least motivated group of
do-nothings in the history of the cosmos. Yea.. that how-to guide.

EVERYONE plonk this moron....
