Ouch! Any idea how? Mail from him usually comes to my work address
that I won't see 'til morning...

No idea. I expect there's a colorful story to follow.

I'm not sure, but I think gravity had something to do with it.

Damn. Guy at work has a new nickname - "faceplant" - due to his
week off from a bicycle mishap.

Everyone take notice: bicycles are dangerous.

WTF, those non-motorized dirtbikes are downright dangerous! Who's got a
working number on Fred?

I tried my last known

Home ---connected to a fax machine
Cell -- Pissed off black dude tells me "I ain't Fred and don't call here no
more"
Work/Home - Pest control answering machine...might be the right one, left a
message.

Yup

Probably pissed because he'd just hung up on me.

I've been worried for 2 days, to the point where I'd been scanning the
posts for his name, and decided I would try to contact him. Then I
found this.

I talked to the man, er Dummy...apparently he was showing the young
'uns how it's done on the BMX track, and discovered just how hard the
Texas hard pan dirt is...left collarbone and right wrist.

Ouch.

He won't be doing much posting for awhile, and he's going to be
dependent on his family for some time.

Heal well, Fred!

From Fred's post a few days ago:

" It's funny though, I feel nearly as comfortable on this new Haro at
41 as I did on my old Schwinn Predator at 21. I'm just a little more
cautious nowadays. I guess alot of that riding I did when I was
younger has stayed with me. "

Fred, I hope you heal as fast as when you were 21.

Re: Send the man your love

Free = expensive

Free street motorcycle = expensive safety gear
Free helmet cam = expensive battery to make it useful
Free Haro bicycle = expensive trip to ER and loss of work

Be very careful around things that you aquire free.

Well, that sucks for Fred. I personally stay off of bicycles. My
last ride on a mountain bike had me on the ground with the wind
knocked out of me taking painfull short breaths. Did you know that
when attacking a steep down hill with a small bermed right hand turn
on a mountain bike is very much like on a motorcycle with exception of
having no way to power the bike mid turn. I came in hot, hard on the
brakes. I release the brakes, and initiate the turn. Right about the
time I would use the motorcycles power to shoot me in the right
direction, the bike decided that it wanted to go off-trail. I
high-sided as the back wheel came over the berm. I landed hard and
decided right then and there that I need a motor or I will die.

Me too, and that was just from pedaling to the end of the driveway.

Left AND right side, eh. Yup, he's going to be dependent on his
family for a little more than they bargained for going in....heh-heh.

It's gonna be just like me in retirement. "H*O*N*E*Y!!!... Pee-pee
