An actual ride report

An actual ride report

I finally made time to go ride yesterday. My friend Pete joined me
riding my spare bike. We loaded up around 10:30 and headed to
Hollister Hills. The sun was out in force, but the air was cold and
making for some excellent weather for riding. We stopped for an early
lunch at Foster's Freeze in Hollister and followed that up with a gas
stop for 5 gallons of Premium fuel. $4.32 per gallon. Ugh. We
arrived to Hollister expecting a zoo with the good weather. We were
happily suprised that it was not very busy. Odd! Maybe the cost of
gas has something to do with it or the Enduro scheduled for the same
day. Who knows, but I enjoyed it. Pete has not ridden off-road in a
good long while, so we took it easy. I was OK with that because I am
not in great riding shape and took the time to work on my fundemental
skills. After about 30 miles of easy riding, Pete called it quits and
I headed for Troll Trail for spirited ride on some good trails with a
father and son that we met.

The Father took my '05 GasGas for a test ride as he is looking for a
new bike. He liked it, but the suspension was set too soft for him.
He looked to be around 200 lbs. and I am at 155. I certain he
bottomed it out several times. Troll Trail is beat and oddly enough,
I enjoy it. I don't enjoy the moron that digs a huge hole under a
mazanita stump making trail passage a PITA on the steep side-hill
trail. I was did a little coaching after being asked how I managed to
ride though a tough section never putting my feet down or sitting
down. It was well received and appreciated. After we finished Troll
Trail, I peeled off and headed for the truck with 38 miles on the odo.
My right hand has been bothering me lately. I need to find a Dr. to
take a look at it. It doesn't hurt enough to keep me off the bikes,
but it's annoying pain. I don't know what I did to hurt it, but i
think it damaged the tendon responsible for pulling my middle finger
closed.

Riding the GasGas was a real treat yesterday. The conditions were dry
and slick with lots of chop. I took every smooth line I could find. I
railed the high side of the berms, which I never do because it the
slow was around. But, they were smooth and I was riding, not racing. I
will have to r ide harder next time. I am not sore at all today other
than my hand and it was sore prior to riding.

Now, where to next?????????

Sounds like physical therapy might be in order. Having recently stayed
at a Holiday Inn Express, I believe I'm qualified to suggest a
treatment plan. What you'll want to do is start with a closed fist and
extend your middle finger alone. Do this as often as possible for best
results. It's simple and can be done at any time - even during that
important business meeting.

Oh, glad to hear you got out for a ride! I know what you mean about
being out of shape. I signed up for an enduro next week so I went out
for some practice on Saturday. After 15 miles I was beat. I think I'm
in trouble.

You could either get a cortizone shot or simply rest the afflicted
digit. I vote the later - what better excuse can you have for giving
EVERYBODY the finger 24-7.

I could use a little of that middle finger tendonitis.

Wow! A ride report from Baxter that was 3 whole paragraphs! Excellent!

Stonyford next weekend!

I'm delivering my FZR to an ex-FZR racer from Oregon in Maxwell Friday
night, and then on to the trails Sat and Sun. This ain't gonna be no
namby-pamby "Oh, let's stop for lunch here and take in the pretty
sights" ride. It's going to be a grueling "ride without stopping til I
can't hang on anymore" ride. Now, that might be 30 miles or it might
be 60 (although 60 is on the wishful thinking side of things) but
whatever it is, I'm going to try to best it on Sunday. I need to whip
my butt into riding shape for the Big Boot in June.

Ah, Stonyford! My favorite place to ride within 3.5 hours. I really
would like to go, but I will have to wait and see for now.
