part for 85 KDX 250

part for 85 KDX 250

I am looking for a header for an 85 KDX 250

I know I can find a new one for five hundred bucks but was hoping to get
something used for less.

I am in Charlotte N.C.

TIA

You may have more success asking for a "pipe," rather than a
header. You might check Mark's:
* w w w .vintagemx.us/cgi-bin/swapmeet.cgi

Or eBay. Or your local cycle salvage if you have one.

Shows how much I know...

The local cycle salvage has none.

Thanks for the lead I will check it out.

No problem. And I didn't mean to sound snotty. It's just that
4-strokes have headers (and mid-pipe and muffler), while 2-strokes
have pipes (and silencers). As common as the KDX's have been I imagine
it shouldn't be too difficult to find one. You might have to try some
out-of-state cycle salvages if eBay or Mark's doesn't work out though.

I can get you a whole (running) '85 KDX200 for less than $500. (I
know it's not a 250, but thought I throw this out.)

One of my riding buddies at the time rode an '83 KDX250. It was a
good bike, but not an impressive bike. I felt the engine on the twin
shock '81 was more fun (more exciting, but not as easy to ride).
The '83 was smoother and had more grunt.

I thought Dyno Port made a replacement pipe for it, at
semi-reasonable price, but looking at their web site proved me wrong.

They just weren't all that popular, compared to other bikes in the
class (and compared to the 200).

Good luck in your quest.

Jim,
Is that '87 polka dot still running?

I don't know. After I helped my nephew get it set up and going, he
rode it a while, and then sold it for $900 (and never paid me back for
the rear wheel and other parts I added). I haven't seen it since.

Do you know if that part interchanges from 200 to 250
