Where can I find a lighting kit

Where can I find a lighting kit

I don't really like most of the dual sports that are on the market. I
am thinking of putting lights and such on a dirtbike to make it street
legal. Does anybody make such a kit?

Thanks,

As Dean says, Baja Designs is the most popular. There are other
choices that a web search for "dual sport kit" would turn up.
Depending on your bike, and the rules you need to follow for your
state, you may just want to do your own. Fourstrokesonly, com is a good
source for buying odd & end parts to make your own lighting system.

Today's dual sport choices are far better than they've ever been. Of
course, some of those choices come with a premium pricetag.

I had a Baja Designs kit on my WR, and I've got the Trick Dualsport
kit on my KTM with an Acerbis fender and headlight. The turnsignals
are integrated into the headlight and fender and I've yet to break
anything off...quite the accomplishment for me. I really like the
Trick set-up. It's very clean and easy to disconnect should I want to
run a regular number plate or fender.

I put a baja kit on my XR. Very well executed kit and the people at BD are
incredibly helpful. However, were I to do it again which I won't, I'd just
buy what I needed separately. I don't quite like the items I got and
ultimately ended up modifying the harnesses and the blinker mounts
extensively. The state you live in and the inspection practices will be
important considerations. Good luck.

Re: Where can I find a lighting kit

Thanks All,

I was trying to search for "dirt bike lighting" and didnt' come
up with anything, but the "dual sport lighting" brought a few hits.
So.......thanks for that suggestion. The search basically brought up
the 2 dealers/websites that you people mention here.

I have looked at both sites and haven't made up my mind as yet.

I will be buying a new bike to play on. I rode the KLX 250 Slug,
and the WR-250 R. The WR is far more superior than the KDX and has
more power, better handling, styling than the KLX. But the prices seem
a little high on both. So, my thoughts are buying a TTR 230 and
installing lights to make it street legal. I doubt I will ride it much
on the street, but I do want the capability.

As far as putting some parts together for my own kit, altho I
have the ability, at my advanced age, it isn't worth the time, gas and
effort to do so.

I haven't had too much trouble in the past with licensing other
vehicles for the street (basket cases, rail buggys, golf carts and
such). I doubt I have much trouble this time, but I will check it all
out BEFORE I buy a kit. I once had trouble licensing a 50cc scooter
that came stock with all the lights, horn, sigals and etc. After going
over the BMV's title clerk, I "got er done". She was a little pissed
and still insisted I was illegal but she couldn't over-ride the
Highway Patrols head man. Poor thing! She even made a note on the
title. Oh well!

Again, thanks.

Hank <~~~thinks title clerks are cute when they get mad. :-)

Re: Where can I find a lighting kit

I agree with Mike W.
I built the light bar for my XR600R... Bought a taillight from
Parts Unlimited.. rigged up a simple pull brake light switch .. Put in
a "Ricky Stator" ... and wala.. LIGHT !!! .. Being in Az.. no turn
signals needed...
