New trails ride reportWell RMD, I got off my butt Saturday morning and headed to Hollister
Hills to try out the trails the finally opened on the Renz property
they purchased over 10 years ago. The gate is located across from the
ATV track. However, only the access road/trails are open to ATVs.
They list all the single track as black diamond, but I will drag
anybody that can ride on these trails. The black biamond sections are
generally short areas with steep drop-offs to the side. Not Idaho
side hill, but scary to newer riders.
The trails are on lower elevations and that means adobe mud when it
rains. Much of the single track reminds me of the Snake trail at
Metcalf. Should you go, be careful as it's easy to go too fast and
end up in a ravine.
I am a little disapointed. I was hoping for some truely challenging
trails. What I got was trails that the Pampera will absolutely kick
ass on. They aren't rough yet, the speeds are kept in check by trail
design and I can't help but think that Tracy will like these trails. I
want to ride again after a short rainfall.
Anyway, I put in 42 miles of mainly single-track riding. It was a hot
day and I was riding alone and called it quits. (Alone, at Hollister
on a weekend, yeah right!)
