I know it's probably emementry for you all, but we are having a blast
and meeting a lot of great folks..

Bump, bump, bump four stroke baby;)

Well, not yet, but you wait.. just for those bike racists out there we
are looking at the honda and a Suzuki right now, both might be a
little much for her right now. We already know she needs a "real"
bike, but she is shifting with a clutch and learning fast. Still can't
see the difference in her pit bike compared to the red one, excopt she
has a clutch, four speeds, longer shock range, and more displacement..
but I am open minded.. ;)

Remember my friend, the wind is just as cool, the ground is just as
hard;)

Most of the bike racists we run into melt as soon as they see her out
there working, once she takes off the helmet and they meet her, it's
all over;) I have also observed that once someone realizes she is out
there with a few scant weeks of riding her first motorcycle and it is
a 4 speed, manual clutch.. they seem to take her a little more
seriously.

Anyway, I have had a lot of time to talk to riders and dads at the
tracks lately and I am starting to learn a lot. As an old street rider
who had never owned a 2stroke, this is a real education. Most of the
folks I talk to agree she is not really ready for much of a 2 stroke
yet, and another said the honda CRF 150 might be to much for her. My
feeling so far is with the 4 stroke she could short shift until she is
ready and grows into the throttle a little. On the other hand I am
starting to see a lot of 2 strokes on the MX track and she likes MX a
lot more than endurocross. At the same time, the MX track is pretty
expensive, we have woods tracks we can ride for free so we will
probably be doing a lot of woods anyway. Personally I think she likes
the MX more because she can get lazy and avoid a lot of shifting, not
so easy in the woods. I suppose as she gets stronger and more skilled
with the machine, that might change some.

All in all, I still have a lot to learn. We are certain that this is a
sport she wants to be involved in, I think it may be a good idea for
me to hold off on a new bike just yet. At least until I know where she
is going, and have a better idea of which type of "tool" she is going
to need. At the same time, I already understand that like any sport,
one tool might not do the job.. ouch.

I will probably have lot's of questions over the summer, as usual,
thanks for any input you may have.

Scotty
