That particular weld... is a bit of a risky one too... everything is
hinging (literally) on it and there is no redundency.

Re: THIS IS WAY KEWL!

From the pictures, the builder simply used a standard ball receiver tube &
welded the round tube onto it. Save time & $$ by simply putting a 2" tube
under the works and drill a hole for the locking pin.

Re: THIS IS WAY KEWL!

I did not know they had such an animal already!
And theirs even tilts down instead of a ramp. Ours is work in progress so, a
trial run on RMD is the best way to get criticism (NO LIE).
I did lower the price a bit after checking out that link.

I always have fun posting on RMD and it appears many have been bored with
the normal YAMMERING DIRT TALK and find my off-beat posts entertaining as
much as I find the replies fun.

I might suggest that off-beat doesn't actually do very well here. On the
other hand, I think you have the reputation to carry a post or two about
beating............... no... no... Not on the new RMD.

Good luck with your rack.... ummmmmmm.... you know what I mean.

Fess up. Isn't that you in the middle?
http :// www .discountramps,com /mcImages/dirt-bike-hitch-carrier-6.jpg
(bike blocks view of camel-toe or "other" :-)

BTW, I built a similar rack several years ago. Being anal-retentive, I
built two independent receiver tubes that bolted to the frame. By using two
tubes, the carrier was much lighter, while also being more secure. An
additional brace to attach it to the back of the vehicle gave additional
security. As an added feature, I also attached a small platform for
mounting gas cans.

Good luck with this project. Unique features that distinguish your product
from low-cost competitors are needed.

After looking at the pics again, I can see many improvments that need
to be made, besides the ones I mentioned in my earlier post.

First, the bar that runs under the rail from side to side is NOT
needed if you would use 2 receivers. The middle one will hold most of
the weight, the second one would stablize the rocking if you added a
swivel to the middle tube, and to lower one side and as a tie down if
needed.

Second, the rear tie-down bar is also NOT needed. Just tie the rear
wheel to the rail to keep it from jumping out, but could be used as
second receiver tube.

Third, use only a straight 2" square tube to lide into the receiver.
You eliminate weight, time and cost.

My suggestions is what I did on mine. Less weight, less cost and more
function.

Hank <~~~has trouble functioning :-)
