Dean's referring to the fact that I emailed him last week with
interest in that abandoned Haro he mentioned in another thread, and
his latest reply came Tuesday (right after my accident) offering the
bike for just the cost of shipping ;-p

Little did he know at the time though...

The email was titled Haro, with three images attached:

If you want this thing you can have it for cost of shipping. Plus a cold
beer.
It needs a chain and tires.
And one of the pedals is all whipped out like it needs bearings, although I
don't know if those are rebuildable or not.

Anyway, I can take it apart and pack it tight. It seems to be tipping the
scales around 29 pounds (before packing).

ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch.

breaking bones hurts.

Hope you heal fast.

Think about the positive side of it. Now you have time to watch all
the movies, videos, series, shows that you ever wanted to but had no
time... :-) I guess that with bad collarbone and wrist, reading might
be just a little too painful to be really enjoyable...

I had a bmx bike once. It was a good bike, the worst crash I had on it
was when I was playing slalon on those big, huge, concrete blocks they
put to divide lanes on a street (like this:
http :// www .hindu,com /2007/12/12/images/2007121260680302.jpg). I
blinked and hit one of those blocks squarely on the middle.... No
broken bones, but I had to push bike home with my chest all scratched
by the asphalt and bleeding palms... :-)

Thanks, Tiago, me too.

Naw, that's not the positive side. The positive side was showering
with the missus last night :-)

Ouch. I've always said, even before this latest accident, that my
worst crashes have always been on bicycles. It seems like bicycles are
just conducive to awkward get offs?

Collar bone fractures are nothing, a good portion of your shoulder
could be pulverized and yet in a few weeks you'd be boxing again -
what worries me is the wrist injury. Wish you the best of luck with
that as it can (and almost always is) a very long process. In fact
your wish is backwards: never hope for a sprained wrist. If you ever
hurt it, hope to God you (cleanly) broke it. The one time I was
sitting at the emergency I was sure the huge mass of meat that once
was my wrist had been broken (following yet another crash at the mx
track, naturally). There was no doubt in my mind that it was that bad.
Hehe, little did I know at that time that I was far worse: it hadn't
broken, I had sprained it. Partially tore some ligaments including one
in the thumb. This is the last thing you want, so next time break the
damn thing!

A broken bone takes but a few weeks to heal (longer with us old farts)
but in my case, I was off the dirt bike for over a year although I was
able to ride the sport bike (barely, due to its very low handlebars
which put much pressure on the hands).

Anyway, I figured that I scared you a bit, after all you'll get no
sympathy from us for sitting around having the wife feed you grapes
and watching TV all day long. Also to warn you to stay on top of it.
In my case I let it go without seeking proper medical/physio advice
and it compounded in me spending even more time off the bike.

Hope I'm wrong and that you're back crashing again in no time. But
never ignore a wrist injury. These are by far the worst (I should
know, I have injured just about everything else)

Thanks, E.D.

The "wrist" injury is really mostly a "hand" injury I guess. The
same hand I broke in about 5 places in 1999. The current x-ray showed
what looks like a crack in one of the small bones just above the wrist
on the pinkie-finger side. *I* say wrist because it feels as if my
wrist was reluctant to let go of the bars and go jambed/bent backward
real bad. But that's just how it feels to me. Trying to intentionally
bend the hand backwards at the wrist right now hurts pretty good. But
it also hurt pretty good when the doc tried to shake my hand.

The hand/wrist definately hurts more than the collarbone right now.
The collarbone injury is uncomfortable, the sling/strap thing is
extremely annoying, and the bone moving around in there is sometimes
irritating, but if you remain mostly still you almost forget that it's
even injured. After seeing the x-ray I think the doc was surprised
that I could lift my left arm out to my side almost horizontal.
Apparently that's not common ;-p

That said, I'll be happy when the shoulder heals so I can sleep
normal and get rid of this crazy strap system. I usually sleep on my
sides (both), so this is killing me.

Don't sweat it Fred! I'm certain you'll heal up quick.

I fractured my right collar bone at practicing Moiser Valley. I did
not find it painful unless I forgot about it being broken and did
something like try to raise the hood on the truck. Unfortunately, it
never healed so it kinda floats around making crunching and poping
sounds, yet zero pain. My left wrist is just recently started to feel
normal over the last couple months and I jammed it last summer. It's
was a large part of why I had not been riding much.

Thanks for the return call last night Brotha! Glad your on the mend. Stay
the hell off those non-motorized bikes. Can't believe you de-commissioned
both wings at one whack.....better be nice to he missus unless you want to
add a severe case of crunchybutt to your list of ailments (that'll make
monkeybutt pale by comparison:-)

Heal quick and go get the RM outta storage as its a lot safer.
