An Idle Question

Do the French themselves vacation in the Caribbean at all???

Just curious!

Most certainly they do. But for practical, cultural and linguistic
reasons the majority tend to visit islands with direct air links to
France, with a French historic connection and where French is
spoken/understood. Therefore Guadeloupe, Martinique (Napoleon's
celebrated Josephine of "Not tonight" fame hailed from Martinique), St.
Barths, Marie-Galante and St. Martin tend to be favourites. Daily B747s
from Paris attest to the numbers. Also to other islands which, although
no longer French, have historic links.... St. Lucia and Dominica for
example. But the French also visit other islands in growing numbers.
Many of them charter bare boat yachts and do their own thing.

Hanging on by our teeth in the face of the idiots who choose to wage
their bigoted warfare in what is supposed to be a tourism help ng. Never
mind ... you know what they say about empty barrels making the loudest
noise :-))

Also, I should think that the Rivera is closer. It might be possible to
stay at someplace less expensive than Cannes. I'm thinking that even a
flight with connections to a Caribbean Island from France has to cost a
chunk of Euros.

But it's not the Caribbean, Brian. Would you prefer to travel to Sanibel
Is. or Naples - or to USVI, St. Lucia, Cozumel or similar? The
Riviera/S. of France is great ... but it's still mainland France. And
the flights are not so ridiculously priced. You can get a r/t ticket
Paris - Guadeloupe for under. 900Euros. The French are pretty well paid
and get up to 6 weeks paid vacation per year.

Me?..... I prefer the BVI, T&C, Anguilla or similar if I'm looking for
sun and beaches - but we get 4 (soon to be 5) weeks vacation annually so
we take probably 3 holidays .... one long haul (often Caribbean), one
mainland Europe and one in the UK (probably Scotland ..... absolutely
beautiful). The French do more - they're quite big into Latin America
and Far East.

Hope all well down on the Keys.
