Are you interested in vacationing in one of these destinations? What
are your interests? Best AI can differ with different interests and
budgets. If you are an older couple looking for some R&R a place like
Hedonism II probably wouldn't appeal.

This is for a 30something couple who are doing this after getting
married. As detox from the exertions of the wedding. So a mini-
honeymoon, but mostly to chill just like on any other vacation. They
are active (though not cert divers) moderate partiers, upper middle-
class but down-to-earth professionals from DC metro area. Not looking
for anything wild, just nice.

Thanks for replying!

I am responding under the assumption that you are from the USA. Under
normal circumstances, Curacao is an expensive island. With the US Dollar
at an all time low, it's easy to spend a king's ransom each night.
There's more value for the dollar in Punta Cana. Given the right time
of year and room choice it's possible to live in the lap of luxury at
Riu Palace - Punta Cana. Riu Palace is one of the larger AI
destinations. It is possible to hide away in a crowd on the beach or
pool because they are so big. As I recall there are 7 restaurants at
this resort hotel. Iberiostar Punta Cana is another Deluxe all Luxury
location.

For a more economical stay, Consider the Yucatan of Mexico. Iberiostar
Grand Hotel Paraiso is located about a half hour south of Cancun
Airport. There are 3 pools. One is salt water with a swim up bar,
there is an indoor outdoor pool with retracting roof then there is a
"lake" pool. There is a golf course on the property. Best of all, it's
adults only (18+) honeymooners get a free bottle of champagne and
welcome package on first night.

Uh, the official currency of Curacao is the Netherlands Antilles Guilder or
Florin, which is tied to the US dollar. This means that the guilder <-> US$
exchange rate never changes. So the low US dollar will have no effect on
Curacao prices.

It is interesting that they have only chosen these two very different
places. As far as I can tell Punta Cana is in the middle of nowhere where
there being some lovely beaches a lot of resorts where plopped down.
Curacao is a compact island with a long history and lots of historical
sites. There is a very strong preservation sense.

Curacao does not appear to have many AI resorts. Apparently there are only
two: http :// www .superclubs,com /brand_breezes/resort_curacao/ and
http :// www .sunsetwaters, com /. Though Sunset Waters is extremely isolated.
There is a Marriott and other resorts, but they don't appear to be AI.

It appears that with the bunching of resorts in Punta Cana you will have
more night life there. The resorts on Curacao are spread out and isolated.
As casinos are popular in Curacao, night life may be very casino oriented.

As for expense, a Spanish country will always be cheaper than a Dutch one.
