Cam tensioners

Folks, Shirley had the plastic, is was declined. She used the debt card and
it failed, wallet in empty but she took my IOU and the tab is open, order
your medicine...quick!!

Across the street I've posted a few pics of the outside cam tensioner from a
stock 04 Heritage with 30000km or 19k miles. Shows a little wear but no
gouges yet and does have a few pits. I'm still looking for a small mirror to
get a look at the rear tensioner without dismantling things further.

Question for those in the know as I have read that the rear tensioner wears
a but quicker - base upon the pic of the front, what might the condition of
the rear be?

Have another round, the tab is getting full.
Tim.

Based on all that I've seen, your inside one probably has more wear, but not
much more and it will be more on the trailing edge rather than across the
face like the outer.
From the looks of your outer one, you've got plenty of miles. When you
start getting a prominent groove in the outer one, then you should look at
the inner.
YMMV.

My mileage varied...... on that Vermont episode the inner was trashed and
the outer looked almost new. :::shrug:::: I do kinda miss that
diesel-sounding idle.........

My 02 had 18k on it . I could hear the noise inside the cam cover. Once
removed the inner tensioner had been sawed almost all the way through. The
outer was about twenty five percent through. I replaced them with gear
driven cams . Seventeen thousand miles later, I don't worry about that
anymore.
