nice run but I learn something the other day....

well, with my job sometimes I have to run paperwork around or pay bills to
people or run to the bank, well Thursday turned out to be one of those
days.... and since gas it about $3.49 per gal I thought hmmm I'll take my
bike out.... and that I did... I went to the bank only 10 miles away then
back through my town down to the county court house but I had to stop at
home any way to pick up my wallet. It was so nice out 55 degrees so I did
not have my chaps on for the first time ever on the Harley. All was well I
have about 80 miles on with all the running I was doing but when I pulled
away from a stop sign I felt my pants leg get caught on something... looked
down and it was wrapped around the heal shifter peg!!! and I needed to stop
because of a car infront of me pulling across traffic. I moved my foot
around and was able to get it off of there but made my heart beat a little
faster... if need I would have stopped on the right foot but I am used to
using that with the foot brake in addition to the hand brake. I was wearing
carpenter jeans and the a kind of baggy at the foot... guessing now not a
good idea... but I never realized this before because with the chaps on it
was never an issue....

of course I got grilled by my son for taking the day off and going for a
ride on my bike, until I told him I was running errands with paperwork
stuff.

Reminds me of a time when I used to wear over-the-boot dirt-biking
pants. I was next to my tent, gave the bike a kick, and the kicker went
straight up my pant leg. My foot couldn't reach the ground and my
momentum was carrying me right over into my tent. I was able to stand up
off the seat, lift my leg off the kicker and get it back down again
before I went all the way over. My wife's mom and sister were out with
us that day, I would have had a hard time explaining to them why I was
laying on top of the tent with a CR250. She would have had to explain
why she was married to a doofus. Last time I wore those pants.

I'll get the next round.

Did her parents understand?

Thanks, don't mind if I do!

After 19 years I think they realize its a little late to do anything
about it.

Easier to explain than being caught in the tent laying on top of the
CR250. And... she already knows you're doofus, ya dufus.

I have a me too on that one. Riding a friend's Road King in Laughlin
once and the pant leg got caught on the heel shifter at a stop light.
I almost went down. The incident caused me to ride without one until
a year or two ago, when the arthritis mandated that if I wanted to
keep riding, I'd be learning to use the heel on the upshifts.

Reminds me of my test drive on a new Ultra when I was looking at bikes. The
missus and I test drove two other HD's then saw the dealer had a new Ultra
with a demo tag on it. Coming off a 400 pound Honda I new the Ultra was
going to be a handful, but I wanted to try one out. We hopped on and got to
the stop sign and went to put my foot down, but my pants leg was caught on
the shift lever. I was quick enough to lift my leg to get untangled, but at
the same time the bike was slowly falling over to the left! I got my foot
down and struggled to get the bike upright. A fraction of a second later and
we would have been laying on the ground in the dealers parking lot with a
new Ultra laying on it's side after the long 100 foot test ride!

glad to know it's not just me... my bike is not going to fall over with the
Hack.
But I get so tangled up I could not shift and traffic suddenly was all
around me.
An my jeans are not baggy. Guess I'll have to do the chaps thing.

Back in the bell bottoms day I was a pre-teen and riding bicyles, used to
have a velcro
strap thing to tie up pants bottom to keep them out of the sprockets and
pedals..
