What I've been up to lately...

Gettin' muddy and havin' fun.

Had some assistance from a 4x4 ATV getting out of that mess. Until I
increase the ground clearance, I need to stock with this...

Might need to rebuild the front end first though, this ball joint seems
a little loose.

Limped it about 1/2 mile by jacking it up, sliding the joint back
together, and slowly driving until it popped out again. Got it to a good
spot close to the road and called for a ride. Went back with tools and a
spare, drove it home an hour later.

Ack! Once you're sitting on the pan there's not much traction to be
found in a puddle. Looks like huge fun getting into there, though.

Drier fun, for sure.

I'm no VW mechanic, but I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to do that.

Looks to me like you're having some big time fun.

Yeah, funny thing is that the first time I hit this mud hole was the
weekend I followed the Isuzu Trooper around. He was shaking his head no
when I motioned that I was going thru it then. Didn't have any problems
that weekend. We did have a few inches of rain last week though, there
was more mud this time around.

Yeah, but very rough. The last trip up the hill behind the car is
probably what did the ball joint in.

That one did it about 15-20 times. I'd jack the car up, pop it back
together, and limp it until it popped out again. Sure helped get the car
to an easier spot to get the spare parts and tools into.

Yeah, but that's on hold until i get new ball joints. All 4 will be
replaced. Probably put new ones in to replace the worst on the 3
different front ends, and save the best of the old ones in the arms for
spares. It's simple to swap the arm out on the stock front end. The cut
and turned one I'm waiting to put in might be a real problem off-road
though.
