What's an Evo crankcase weigh?

What's an Evo crankcase weigh?

Help yourself to a cold one on me.

I've run the googler and come up empty.

Before I try to lift it out of the frame, it might be kind of nice to
know roughly how much the Evo crankcase weighs. I intend to remove the
heads, jugs, and pistons, then unbolt the primary chain case and the
motor mounts, and lift it out by hand.

40, 50, 80lbs? I haven't a clue.

Thanks,
Spanky

How old are you? How fit are you? I'm sixty, fat, and decrepit and I
can lift one out of the frame with the heads and all intact. If you're
not disabled you ought to be able to do it. The flywheels are the heavy
part and they're centered nicely in the cases, so it'll be a nice
compact load to lift. Probably not fifty pounds.

Well yer a better man than I am. I'm waiting for Mr. Pearson to come
by and help me lift the 96 inch into the FLHS. We placed his Guzzi
Ambo motor last week, including the tranny. That was not a
one-sphincter job.

Hey! Good to see you around here!

C'mon, you can do it! Just grunt and think of a big bag of feathers.

And hernia trusses. And back surgery.

And if you see those little bubbly looking circles in your vision and
things get dark, put it back down.

Or, you could get some Slugs to come over and drink heavily while
offering advice. That worked for me.

Shit mang, you made slidin' that beeg motah in look like childs play.
Troof be told, I've usually found it easier to do that job by myself
anyway. It's pretty easy once ya done it a few times. Matter of
fact, I just did that in that extry Shovel basket... th' one you might
want. Pics will be posted across th' street in a few.

It's not putting it down that concerns me, as much as putting it down
in a controlled manner. <G>

Just a tip fer them's who've never heard it before... if yer down to a
bare frame with a shiney gnu paint job it's a breeze to lay th' engine
on it's side and place th' frame around th' motah. Still takes four
hands, but th' grunt and scratch factors are reduced considerably.

Snarl... as you were

I just happen to have a stripped evo crankcase and a bathroom scale.
Put 'em together and you get 62 lbs. That's with the wheels, studs,
rods, and oil pump in place.

I'd say there is more oil on it than in it. <G> As to kind, it is
Genuine HD oil, with lots of aluminum shavings added. <GG>

I thought about doin' that (briefly) yesterday when I saw th' OP's
query. I've got two complete shovel motors and a Knuck motor sittin'
here inna shop. Then I got to thinkin' that th' Knuck has cast iron
cylinders n' heads, a tad heavier than th' shovels. Then I envisioned
Jeanne's bathroom scale imploding... it only goes to 200 lbs. Then I
started thinkin' about my Elk rib eye steak dinner for last night
resembling shoe leather, complete with dog shit inna treads, and
decided it might not be a real good idea.

So, how ya been Brer Conehead, life is good we hope?

Snarl... that steak was excellent, by th' way

This is not the place for details, but I can take a deep breath at
this moment and say that I have recently received a couple of life
modifications that, if I was a guy to wish for things to happen, would
have been things I'd have happened to wish for. But I also know more
about "be careful what you wish for, you might get it" than I ever
wanted to know. <G>

Excellent. Thanks for doing that.

Oh Shirley, a round over here, thanks.

Guess I'll go down to the gym after work and get some squat and lift
practice with a 75lbs dumbell.
