To cover or not to cover

To cover or not to cover

Have one of your choice on me. Buddy of mine gave me his old Harley
bike cover that he used to cover his Electra Glide with. Question is,
when would I use it?

He rode to work for a while on a Gold Wing after that, and always
covered his bike with a cover. Me, I just ride the bike and let it sit
out in the sun all day while I'm inside making the money that let's me
have stuff like that.

So, is there any particularly outstanding reason why I should go to
the trouble of packing a cover and using it?

Shirley, we're still thirsty, so fill 'em up, please.

There's an argument that putting a gold wing cover (with Honda or Gold
Wing proudly emblazoned on it) will reduce the chances of someone making
off with your Harley.

No, really. You could look it up.

Uh, the cover he gave me says "Harley Davidson." He obviously had no
use for it, having bought his new Gold Wing. THe cover he had on the
Gold Wing said somethin' else, I dunno.....

In your case, no.

From the tone of your post it seemed like it wasn't something you were
really interested in. You stated:

He rode to work for a while on a Gold Wing after that, and always
covered his bike with a cover. Me, I just ride the bike and let it sit
out in the sun all day while I'm inside making the money that let's me
have stuff like that.

This gave the impression that you don't mind having the bike sit uncovered
throughout the day and that even if this was detrimental, you make enough
money to simply buy another bike. It didn't sound like you were overly
concerned with protecting the bike, so why would you go to the trouble to
cover it. Additionally you yourself said it would be "trouble" to do,
indicating to me that you weren't likely to stick with it even if you start
carrying it.

You asked my opinion and I gave it, I didn't think I could have made it any
clearer that answering your question with "no" so I'm not sure what you
missed. If someone else had asked saying that they had a chance to get a
free cover and if it would help protect their bike, something they scrimpted
and saved for and wanted to keep in the best possible condition then my
answer might have been different, but based on your wording, in your case,
no.

I use my cover every night . But then I don't have a garage , I park mine
in the driveway . Sometimes when rain is predicted early in the day , but
clearing by quitting time , I cover the bike . But only because if the
sheepskin seat cover gets wet my bike smells like a wet sheep .

And that's why I have a much smaller cover, just for the seat. I
bought it for the Low Rider in Rapid City while I was at Sturgis in
2006. When I ride to work on a day when it might rain, I put the seat
cover on, just so I don't have wet butt riding home.

It's a tad small for the Ultra seat, but it still completely covers
the rider's portion, and I can slip it under the rider backrest.
