So that's where it went

Have a drink while I walk you through an unexpected surprise.

It started back in July of '06, just a month after getting the Ural. I took
a little offroad jaunt on my bike, which I'll now take you back to. Follow
the watch...swaying back and forth....you are getting sleepy....

RMH Post July 19th, 2006: Uraling (long)

After supper, and a couple goes at the potato cannon we built earlier in the
week, we decided it was time that my brother trade in the CB550Four for his
old IT175 and take the Ural off roading. We plowed a path through the hay
field to the little overgrown path that used to be used by kids with ATVs,
now it's almost completely grown over and the Ural was almost too wide to
make it through. I hit one spot that has a dip that was nothing more than a
small ditch full of mud. I hit it a bit slow and got stuck, a perfect
opportunity for me to try engaging the sidecar wheel to get me out of the
ditch. It worked like a charm, and after I got up through the ditch the
path connects up to an abandoned railroad track, so I disengaged the sidecar
wheel. We ran along the track for a short distance, unfortunately this too
had started to grow in a bit, causing me to have to duck a few time and clip
a fair amount of foliage. We stopped as the tracks approached a crossing
and turned around to head in the other direction. I think I picked up about
12 different types of bugs while going along the path, from aphids to inch
worms. Had I been thinking I would have had on my gloves and leather
jacket, but I figure we'd be going slow so no real need. There were a few
spots where there was a hill that caused the bike to lean to the left a
little more than what I was comfortable with, but fortunately it never went
over.

Now you are going to move ahead a week and a half....you are still
sleeping...you are still back in 2006....

July 31, 2006-Quick Ural update

The sidecar axel has a little cover on it, apparently that decided to take
the road less travelled, at least by me, as it's no longer on the bike.
This is pretty much a cosmetic cover, I'm waiting to hear what a replacement
one sells for.

When I snap my fingers you are going to wake up and be back in the
present...wait for it...wait...hmmm, since your all under I'm gonna do
something.....hmmm....well I'll be, they actually feel pretty real, and
nice....ahem....<snap>

Well today we were out in the country visiting my folks when the kids
decided to take a run down through the hay field and the atv path I
mentioned earlier. I don't think it's been used by ATVs in a while, but it
looked fairly well travelled. On our way back through the path my sister
picked something up and asked me what it was, well what do you know, it was
the hubcap off the sidecar. Been sitting there for close to two years. So
now I have spare since the dealer replaced it gratis.

Drinks on me.

See? I told you so.

<g>

Finding the cover must have been similar to finding $20 tucked into
the pocket of a jacket you haven't worn in a while.

Sometimes you just have to see for yourself.

Kind of, but I got a free replacement so now it's just going to sit on the
shelf until I can manage to shake the other one loose.
