Into the heart of Babylon

Into the heart of Babylon

...a strange and terrible saga.

Most rides I take anymore are jaunts in the opposite direction from
civilization - whatever that really is. It used to take only about 7-8
miles and I was free - now it has crept up to 15 or so very thick miles
and that is only if I head straight for the SunCoast Expressway and head
north.

This morning I had to go into an attorney's shop for some repairs to
some stuff that wasn't done according to spec and since it didn't
involve a sit down per se - I opted to roll out the black fraulein for
the penetration into the heart of Babylon. Like most urban areas,
either the north-south routes or the east-west routes are seemingly
given a priority and while both seem screwed up on this peninsula, the
old north-south route of choice has now had too many lights inserted for
this and that reason making any convenient travel timing out of the
question. Unless of course - one hauls ass at given intervals.

The drought season is here and the sun pretty much starts to cook
everything by 9 AM. The breezes off the Gulf though are still rather
cool, so as long as a rider is in motion - it's nice to ride still in
the mornings. With the high percentage of older folks on the road after
most people are at work, losing focus for just a moment can be deadly.
Riding in the higher RPMs is also a must as the need for added power
pronto might well arise at any time. After a few miles of this style
riding - something I don't normally indulge much in - the prevailing
attitude seems to just turn more aggressive by default and I found
myself riding a bit like those riders I sometimes shake my head at for
being what I impose upon them as "too impatient". Shit - they're just
having fun. Wait, did I say that?

I rode faster than I was supposed to - I changed lanes like a
nymphomaniac on the rag - I challenged the edge of a few reds - I split
a few lanes and I had a good time doing it. FTW!

Sounds like fun.
Happened to me yesterday too...
BUT I HAD AN EXCUSE!
I was in the last 50 miles of the 325 miles from the cabin to Rocky
Mount... and there was this "club" of motorcycle enthusiasts (rice
rockets) doing about 90... and since we were the only ones on the road,
and since Rodney can do something a tad over 100,,, that's what I did.
And then, that's what they did, and then I did more, and then they did
more,,, and then I couldn't do anymore, and then they figured they
better *not* do anymore. And since they were in front of me,,,, that's
right where I wanted them... so we backed down to about 90 with everyone
waving and having fun, and not a cop in sight.

Glad ya had fun, and didn't get caught.

Rodney & Rudy are both in Rocky Mount.
I wuz hoping to get all the parts I needed to do some stuff to both of
'em.
I got the bolts & rivnuts on the way (Next Monday) to mount the cop
seat. The local dealer here said I could even use his rivnut tool since
I'm buying the parts from them; 6 bucks well spent, even cheaper than
Snarl! So with that out of the way, I can move on to bigger and better
things for Rodney. Rodney's even shed his yeller lowers.

As for Rudy, the Missing Link came in... so with a little luck, I'll get
started on that, the PCIII, and tourpak sidemarker lights (thank you
eBay).
One or the other will be used to get to MAMMARY.

One-at-a-time.

It's be a pretty stoopid move to have no bikes for MAMMARY.

I took Deb's beast out this morning - mainly because it leered at me
with that sad eyeball when I wheeled out the fraulein yesterday - but I
won't go that fast on it. In fact, anything over 80 and I'm glad there
are no buttons on the saddle.

I'd last behind that bike for only a short while. Do evac routes have
twisties?
