Ultra Trunk

Ultra Trunk

Drinks on me, belly up.
Say, I'm wondering if it would be feasible to change the top of the
trunk on an Ultra to open from the kickstand side instead of the right
side? I find myself using the trunk way more than the saddle bags
(still a dumb latch design after all these years, IMO). Consequently,
I find myself mounting and dismounting on the "wrong" (right) side of
the bike. Has anyone doen this? Is this a dumb idea? If not, why
doesn't the MoCo make them that way?
Anyway, just askin'. Have another if'n yer so inclined.

If it opened the other way, gravity would tend to pull it closed
instead of holding it open. A latch to hold it open is probably more
expensive to use than the little cable thingie they use now.
Wouldn't want to add to the cost of the bike, now, would you?

Besides that, If yer broke down on th' shoulder, you don't want to be
on th' traffic side to open it. That's why most guys I know also
carry their tool roll in th' right baddle sag.

If the hinges were relocated to the backside, he'd then have ABS (Air
Brake System).

Huh, I carry it in that side because the battery is behind that
saddlebag and there just isn't room in that bag for much else.
Besides, the beer stays colder in the other side because I don't have
any exhaust on the left side of the bike.

It's still all good... even if ya do it fer th' wrong reason <g>.

Neither do I, but being a professional drinker, I have a dedicated
beerbox located where most amateurs have a tour pack. It holds a case
of coldbeers and a bag O' ice.

Why sure...

I ain't even gonna put the rack for the pak back on Pearl when she
goes together again. After all, I've got room for a big assed ice
chest on the trailer.
