Prince George B.C. Ride Report

Prince George B.C. Ride Report

With a new season starting, I got in the mood for putting together a
web page describing a trip we took, back in July of last year. If
you'd like to check it out, see below:

http :// xidos.ca/Bikes/PrinceGeorge/

And, of course, don't forget to get that drink on my tab while you're
at it...

Thanks for the ride along. Beautiful country! (Of course, I'm from
Kansas...most anywhere has more exciting landscape than Kansas. <g>)
When the wife retires in about 14 months we plan on taking some trips up
north, and maybe B.C. will be one of our destinations. I'll show her
your web page and that'll surely convince her to go.

Hey, if you're both healthy, both like riding and will both be free of
the 9-to-5 grind at the end of 14 months... it doesn't get much better
than that Andy. That's the way to retire!

Me, I think I'm on some sorta 'Freedom 85' plan... but it's all good.

I don't hesitate in recommending B.C. to anyone I know that rides.
It's a beautiful province, well-maintained infrastructure and
criss-crossed with all kinds of interesting, windy roads. I head out
there at least twice every year. I bet your wife would enjoy it.

If she needs more convincing, you could also try a couple other pages
I put together on B.C. trips we've made:

Got health...I'm a kid at 57 years old and she'll be 50 (I mean, 29) in
September.

> both like riding

Gotta see if she likes riding. She's only been on the bike for perhaps
2-3 hours total. She doesn't dislike it, but she's never been exposed to
real riding before. I taken her on a few rides into town, etc., but
that's about her limit so far. We've got a plan for a ride in Idaho this
summer. It was her idea, too! She'll fly out and meet me in Boise, then
we'll cruise up north of there for a few days. If that doesn't do it,
then she's just doesn't like riding.

She'd hafta be nuts not to. 'Course she married me, so her sanity *is*
in question. <g>

Better make a stop here or I'll think of somethin' super horrible to
say about ya's. It'll be really bad, you don't want that to happen.

I can't have *that* happen. I'm a sensitive guy, ya know. <g>

Our trips will probably happen is like this: We'll pick out a nice place
to ride, like the PNW, B.C, Idaho, etc, and then I'll ride solo across
'fly-over country' to the afore-mentioned locale. She'll fly out and
meet me. Then she'll hop on back and we'll cruise the beautiful
countryside for a few days before reversing the process.

We're trying it out this summer with a trip to Boise. We flew there in
2003 to see my relatives and ended up driving the rental car to McCall
and surrounding points. She fell in love with the area.

Lois has never been on the bike more than an hour or so, and it's always
been on roads here at home. I betcha that when she sees parts of Idaho
from the seat of a bike she'll realize what a treat it is and wanna do
it more often.

My intended itinerary:

I know, and of course you know that I'm a very bad, evil man, who'd
gladly stoop to such reprobatical debaucheryism.

That's been th' only way Jeanne n' I have been able to ride any
distance from home... still have kids. It works out pretty good.

That's easy 'nuff to do. Wait 'til youse guys see some *really* nice
places out here. Actually, what I like th' most about this area is
th' topographical diversity. You can have brekky watchin' th' sun
rise in th' dessert, lunch in th' lush green Cascade mountains, and
dinner with yer toes in th' Pacific Ocean as ya watch a spectacular
sunset.

I hope yer right, I love ridin' with Jeanne. Always feel kinda sorry
fer guys whose SO don't like ridin'.

Ya know, another place you guys would love, and it'd work out great
for Lois if she doesn't care for extended saddle time, is a trip to
th' San Juan Islands. Fly into SeaTac, hop on th' ferry in Anacortes
to th' big Island, San Juan, and spend a few days exploring. There's
other Islands you can ferry to from there, and lotsa good places to
eat and play.

I hesitated revealing the fact that I had a plan. It isn't a *real*
plan, though. It's more of a wish list of towns and areas I wanna see
for various reasons. <he says while praying for redemption for having an
apparently detailed plan.>

BTW, when we're in Idaho, I will have my GPS with me. No - not one of
*those* GPS things. In this case, GPS stands for 'Global Positioning
Spouse.' She has an uncanny ability to know where she is and where we
need to go at any moment. Unfortunately her voice isn't as pleasant as
an electronic GPS when I make a wrong turn. "Do you know where in the
world you're going?" "Why did you take this road, ya dummy?" "NO! The
*OTHER* north." etc. I guess she doesn't realize that getting lost is
part of the experience.

Otay, it's obvious, yer both compulsive planners. It might take me a
few days, but I can help ya cure that affliction. It won't be cheap
tho! Hell, if can can cure dp n' Lanter, I can cure anyone <g>.

Jeanne's just th' opposite of Lois. She'll just sit back there 'til
we stop, comment about some of th' cool shit we just saw, and happily
goes with th' flow. 'Sides, she never knows where th' fuck we're
going, heh. Then again, neither do I most of th' time. Ridin' with
me drives chronic planners crazier'n a shithouse rat.

Snarl... that's a good thang

That's Sharon. Which is why it's doubtful she'll ride to Roger's,
which is about 4 hours. Might drive her brand-new car, tho. Which
would be kinda silly, considerin' the cost of gas and all, drivin' a
car AND a bike.

Ah, well. My brain hurts now.

Well, I don't know if Andy's technique was different, but I paddled a
leaky canoe 800 miles norrth to her reserve and, after risking the
wrath of her tribe, traded 3 horses and 2 dozen Hudsons Bay blankets
for her, like any red-blooded Canadian boy in my place would have
done!
