Washing a filthy dirrrty bike: Conclusion

Although it was only 34 this morning, I rode to work. On a nice clean
shiny bike. 8-)

I took the lazy way out and went to the self-serve car wash on Saturday.
NO I DIDN'T PRESSURE WASH THE SEALS AND ELECTRICS! I used the wand to
presoak and then use some kind of glow in the dark soap to wash the big
chunks off the bike. That along with a brush got an amazing amount of
dirt off the bike.

I went to Walmart and got some Meguire's Scratch-X and Meguire's wax.
That Scratch-X is absolutely amazing stuff! Thanks, TL! I couldn't
believe how it got rid of the haze on my fairing. That and the lowers
look 110% better. Followed up by a good coat of wax and my bike looks
years newer. The only thing with getting the fairing so clean is that I
could now see all the rock chips in it. Yikes! CrowDog went to work on
the pipes and got off nearly all the rust. I thought the end caps were a
lost cause but now they look like new. He used some Turtle Wax chrome
polish/cleaner for that. The bike isn't perfectly clean but it look sooo
much better. And with the wax on it, I'm sure I get at least a 10%
increase in horsepower because there isn't so much drag from the dirt. ;-)

Thank you to everyone with your suggestions and idea. The next round is
on me. The one with the shiny bike. And a lot more chrome than I
remembered. 8-)

I dunno why you bothered to wash it...you're just gonna get it covered in
road grime and bug butts again!
