Washington netscum?

Washington netscum?

I may not be layed off! My current position has been "outsourced" and
the 30 day clock has begun to tick. Shirley bring me a double, and
whatever they're havin'!
Here's the scoop...
I may be offered a position in Wash, I may have a choice of the
following locals,
Marysville, Kirkland, or Lynnwood.

I don't have any contacts in the company yet, so....

Which is just a notch above scuzzy?
Motorcycle freindly?
Better working conditions (I'd be installing and repairing residential
fiber optic service to the home)? This one may be the hardest answered
as newer housing is prewired and easier but the upscale owners are
harder to work with. On the other hand older facilities can be more
difficult there is probably a more flexable customer (this is more
desirable). All of these areas would be confined within their urban
boundries as fiber has not extended past them.

I'm thinking Marysville although the weekend commute home to Cornholio
would be farther. Yahoo says the difference is only 20 min, I'll bet
not on a Friday PM.

Maybe the distinguished gent from Mukilfuckingteo could drop a clue my
way (if'n he still lurks this dungeon).

I've still got to weigh the ramifications of spending a week away from
home, but options are better than none.... Timing really sucks for a
move (not a good time to sell) and I'll have to stay there for two
years should I accept. Hmmmmmmm.

I'm not in Mukilfuckingteo anymore and haven't been for maybe four years
and there are other folks around here who are still in that area,
predate me there, and know everything there is to know about it far
better than I do.

With that caveat, and working from my often-fallible memory, I'll just
add some comments. Feel free to, in fact I'd advise you that you
should, trust other's local knowledge above mine.

Kirkland and Lynnwood are so close together that they may in fact border
each other. They're more like neighborhoods in the Seattle metro area
than really distinctive towns. Marysville is just a bit up I-5 from
them and is a more distinct town.

Having said that, when I was there Kirkland and Lynnwood were
economically quite different, with much of Kirkland being considerable
upscale from Lynnwood. Marysville is an older town, probably undergoing
(or was undergoing, depending on the local economic situation) growth
and a lot of renovation/remodeling.

Of the three, I'd guess probably Lynnwood. But that whole area, in my
opinion, is kinda spendy but interesting.

> Motorcycle freindly?

In what way? Here in Florida there are gated communities that ban
motorcycles and people that own bikes are forced to either keep them
outside of the community or literally push them to the gate before
starting them. Really. No shit. I never saw that in the Seattle area.
I never got the sense that any place I was interested in going wasn't
motorcycle friendly, or at least motorcycle tolerant.

Lynnwood and Kirkland are, I think, pretty well built out, so I would
guess you'd be installing in existing buildings for the most part.
Dunno for sure, of course, but I don't remember there being much in the
way of vacant lots in either of them. Marysville has more land around
it and could go either way, I think.

I've got no idea what or where Cornholio is, but I'm guessing it's south
of Seattle from what you said. I-5 traffic sucks. All day. Every day.
All night. Every night. Being in Marysville is going to put you I
don't know, maybe 35-40 miles north of Seattle. Getting from Marysville
to Seattle isn't going to be the time-eater. Both Lynwood and Kirkland
are on the north side of downtown. Gonna take you probably an hour to
get through Seattle going south anyway. I'd think Marysville wouldn't
be that big a deal in addition.

When we were looking at moving to that area, I asked Brother Snarl a ton
of questions about it. The thing he told me that was the most succinct
and memorable thing was this: 'It's the most beautiful place you'll ever
hate."

It was, and it is, and I'd move back in a heartbeat, all things being equal.

As I said, other folks will have more recent and better knowledge than mine.

Might as well be, all there is between 'em is Bothel, Mountlake
Terrace and Edmonds. All that shit just runs together.

Oh there's gated communities like that here too, lot's of 'em. Out of
th' three, Kirkland would be most likely to have 'em tho.

Actually, Kirkland is on th' east side just north of Bellevue. That
makes it a mandatory commute on I-405, absolutely the worst
(congestion wise) highway in WA.

Word is it won't be much longer 'til th' state charges tolls to drive
on every major route in/through Seattle. They wasted th'
multi-billion dollah surplus so's now th' sheeple's gotta pre-pay for
a new 520 bridge and a Hwy 99 viaduct. If ya look up th' word
Freeway, there's a pic of (not my fuckin') Governor holdin' her greedy
paw outstretched from inside a toll booth.

I'm seriously contemplating moving to somewhere in Nevada. Ya know
yer gettin' old when tax policies are more important than scenery.
It'd prolly drive me crazy, but I'm no stranger to that.

Nope, but I could build another one for a lot less in NV. Hell, for
th' money I'd save in taxes I could build one twice as big for less
money. I'm just havin' a hard time figurin' out *where* in NV. Hate
cities n' people so that leaves a shitload of options <g>.

That would pretty much leave damn near all of Nevada. There's a whole
lot of There there, and not a whole lot of people to spoil it.

Case in point. US Route 50 - pick a spot.

I absolutely *love* that Hwy, especially an eastbound sunset as ya
approach Grand Junction, CO.

I did find a 10 acre piece for sale yesterday in northern NV that
looks interesting. It's in a fucking ghost town <G>. Perfect.

Always wanted to live in a ghost town.

I doubt there's any way in hell of convincing Ms. Mouse that Nevada is
even a remote possibility.

Remote being, in fact, the concise nature of that particular speed bump
in the plan.

Yeah, definately no good Chineese take out around where I'm lookin'.
Actually, there ain't a damn thing, but some 100 yr old, fallin' down
buildings. Th' old saloon/whorehouse prolly has a story er two to
tell.

Think I'll ride down there in a couple of weeks and take a listen.
Fuckin' RE will prolly be playin' th' piano.

ML's the same way, she likes her amenities. I'd rather have room and
privacy, although these days an hour long drive to the grocery store would
just about bankrupt a person.

They have these new fangled things called gardens. Food grows in 'em.
Really, really good food. Plus there's these things called guns you
can kill meat with. No shit, really, really good meat too. Oh, and
don't forget those dealy's they call fishin' poles. And just th'
other day I heard about a way a guy can make beer! Really, really
good beer.

Methinks if a person doesn't live somewhere they can do those things,
they gonna be inna world O' deep shit... not too far in th' future.

Use a few of these to keep sharp for that inevitable day.

If yah move down here to Nevada, you'd have to get used to the Sunshine
from April till November. then there's all that damn racket from Harley's
constantly driving up and down all the beautiful Sierra Mountain roads. On
the down side we have legal Whore houses :-)
