How about you & the little lady head down to the cabin?
Bring the Banker & his little lady, and hang for a week.
We've got internet & VPN, so the little ladies can work from home. <g>
Gary, come on up, tell Linda to bring her laptop!

I'm not bigger but I was a powerlifter until late 2003.
When it wants to go all you can do is let it down as slowly as
possible.
If you manage to keep it up it will probably rearrange your spine for
you.

Good to know. Now, I don't have to feel obligated to exercise as much!
More time for drinking beer!

Now your talking.
God put those bars on the bike for a reason.

(snipped)

You could have told all the folks watching that you did it on purpose.
The bike was tired and you were going to let it rest a bit. Yeah...thats
the ticket. Anyway, ya got that part over with. It's not a virgin anymore.

I did a similar thing, but it was when I forgot to put the side stand
down. Equally stupid, but different. <sfsf> Same minor damage...same
spots. Yer right about how little damage is done. I think the real
damage occurs when it falls over onto the asphalt while it is traveling
along at 30 MPH. <cringe at the thought>

Huh. I knew about the tree incident, but I didn't know about that one.
Funny thing - I was at the local Sonic across from where I bought the
bike for "Bike Night" last evening, and a guy I used to ride with
dropped his brand-new Wing the same way. Forgot to put the sidestand
down.

> Equally stupid, but different. <sfsf>

Yeah, it's embarrassing no matter which way the bike falls!

Yeah. Well, at 30 MPH, it's pretty stable. Until you hit something, of
course.

I had a similar experience with my Road King about a month after I
bought it Larry. I pulled up to a rural T intersection, looked both
ways, started rolling and made one more check to the left. Notice a
car flying over the knoll about 300 feet to my left. Grabbed that
front brake and put my right foot down as the bike started leaning
that way. Woe is me, the asphalt on the road edge had broken away and
dropped down about three inches. Like you, I gave it my best effort
to hold it up, but decided the bike was going anyway and so was my
groin muscle if I kept fighting it.

I did a little better than you, a few scratches on the bag and the
engine guard but no damage to the foot peg.

A young lady came around the corner a moment later and a fellow in a
pickup. Both jumped out to give me a hand.

I learned three things that are working out well for me since then.

1. Stop near the left side of your lane, away from the road edge.

2. Keep your foot near the rear brake and leave the front brake alone
at low speed.

3. Never drop the bike in front of a young lady, or any other for that
matter.

Of the three; I consider number three to be the most valuable lesson.
Violating it seems to be really embarrassing. My cool quotient dropped
from ten to about a two for the next month. Along with the legend in
my mind. <g>

Glad to see you didn't ding it up too much. Laying it down really zaps
the shit out of that show room new feeling.

It still looks brand-new. The footpeg didn't get scraped at all -
musta hit on the rubber parts. In a few months there'll be so many
dings from rocks on the highway this little incident won't matter
much.

All the rest of the day yesterday while I was riding, I'd approach a
stop sign, start looking both ways for traffic to see if I could keep
rolling, checked myself and said "Just stop the damn bike, jackass!"
I'd look straight ahead, get the bike stopped, then check out the
traffic situation. I think I'll keep to that standard from now on.

Amen to that. Stop, look and listen. Where have we heard that before?
I still shake my head every time some poor fool prangs into a train.

Hey, at least YOU're okay. My brother had a similar type slow-motion
fall but broke his ankle bone.
I saw a dude do the same thing once when I was a mere lad, he wasn't
hurt and I thought it was funny as hell. Now that I'm an old fart in
the making... not so funny. seriously, thankfully you were uninjured.

Thanks, Walt. I'm real thankful, too. I broke my collar bone in two
places a few years back riding my V Star, and I'm real glad that
didn't happen again. My shoulder still tells me when it's going to
rain, and it's not very comfortable when it does!

Brembo's come stock on the '08 baggers. ABS is an option.
