I run 20/50..either castrol gtx, or valvoline.....with a cooler too....
I put the cooler on because the temp was gettin up around 190 or
higher....with the cooler, it stays around 150....

Too cool. Literally. Yer motor oil needs to be at least 180° to burn
off th' contaminants inherent with 4 stroke, air cooled motors. Yer
doin' more damage than good. Seriously. Ain't nuthin' wrong with
190°.

As far as Rick's contention above, I gotta respectfully disagree.
There's a bunch of legaleese bullshit inna manual. Hell, our local
dealer doesn't even carry 60 wt, and IIRC, ain't never seen a new bike
equipped from da factory with an oil cooler. Th' only bikes around
here (PNW) that I see with oil coolers are big inch, poser, bah
hoppin' butt jewelry.

I've got 195k on m' Evo bagger and when we did a top end, th' lower
end looked brandy new and was well within' specs. It's bored to .010
now and I expect to get a bunch more miles out of it. It used 20-50
dino for th' first 45k and 20-50 synth fer th' balance, sans an oil
cooler. I fail to see a problem.

Conversely, I've seen a low milage motor where th' thermostat fer th'
oil cooler was stuck on open. That fucker looked like it had 200k
miles instead of 10k. *And* th' dealer wouldn't warrantee th' work
since it was an aftermarket, owner installed, oil cooler/thermostat.
Go figure.

I just pulled the top end off my Shovel stroker after 5 years and 60k
miles. When all was said and done they ended up having to bore it
only .010" over.

For that whole 60k miles I ran nothing but Castrol 20-50.

60k on a stroked Shovel and only .010" cylinder wear? Sounds like
that oil's working fine to me. Ought to run real nice now that all
the stuff the previous owner buggered up is gonna get fixed.

Ok guys... had a chance to finally figure out what the hell was going on
with the noise I am hearing....for some reason, I never thought about
checking the compression releases....somehow, I seemed to have forgotten I
had them on the bike....so that explains the exhaust type ticking I
hear....am gonna have time this weekend to check the one where the noise is
coming from to make sure its nice and tight....so needless to say, I won't
need any lifters or even a pushrod adjustment...

Thanks for all the advise...
