What's happened here? Is it that all the manufacturers have mature bikes
and the teams have worked out how to get the best from them? Or that the
current crop of new guys and old guys have all reached the same level?
Or maybe that the tyres are both sticky and forgiving?

5 bikes in 0.2s, 13 bikes in 5s. 5 manufacturers in those 5s.

Even though it was mostly a procession, the second SBK race was
fascinating as well. Bayliss and Haga reminded me of some of the old SBK
battles. Two riders riding out to the edge but almost perfectly. Barely
a single mistake between them.

What is it about ex-MotoGP riders that they fail to really capitalise on
Superpole and then start slowly in the race. Checa is getting faster and
faster and his 5th lap to the end pace ought to give him a win soon. But
those first 5 laps destroy any chance of that.

Add in that fast flowing tracks like Assen often produce close racing.

The most amazing stat for me was that, with 5 laps to go, the top 10
were covered by 2 seconds!

Now that *is* odd. Obviously Biaggi and Checa have shown the same
thing. Perhaps the depth of field in MGP is not as good, so after
making an average start, you don't get beaten up so much. But more
likely, I think SBs are easier to overtake on - the lack of carbon
disks means longer braking distances.

Barros had the same problem. It's beginning to look like Tamada might as
well. But a) he's lost the plot somewhat and b) the Kawasaki is still
off the pace.
