If Erion did what they say of course the DQ was justified, but I
thought it was pretty clear I was referring to Hayes's actual 200 ride
last Saturday, which, while about as flawless as possible in execution,
ended up about as far from perfect as it gets...

Ah. Then I think we're in agreement! And on a Friday afternoon too...

Phil Rhodes asks:

I was just talking to a friend that was there in the pits
watching. He, and others he was with, noticed that
they used two guns, one to take out and one to put in
the rear axle. The second gun had a new axle in it,
preloaded, they didn't reuse the first axle.

You would think this was for pit stop speed. But
then somebody pointed out to my buddy that the first
axle looked slightly different. It was a different material
or finish.

He has a conspiracy theory that the first one was Ti
which is illegal. The second was legal and the one that
would get inspected after the race.

If they planned only one pit stop, I might be inclined to
think the Erion crew was really cheating. But that's not
the case. they had to stop twice minimum.

In any case, could they have tried to use an axle/wheel
combo that had never been mounted before? That would
be boneheaded.

Go fast. Take chances.
