Remove carbs from old CBR600?

Remove carbs from old CBR600?

1987 cbr600, 20k mi.

I've got a Clymer ('87-'89) and an online scan of a Honda ('90+) manual.
Followed the instructions, disconnected cables, etc.

There is a brace of 4 Keihin carbs. Each carb connects to one intake
port via a rubber or plastic hose segment with a screw-clamp on the
port end and another at the carb end.

I've loosened all the screw-clamps, lubed what I could with wd-40,
etc. To my knowledge, the brace of carbs should wiggle off with
hand pressure. I apply reasonable pressure: the carbs won't come off.
I figger if I wail on it or apply a pry-bar, I'm gonna break something.

Note that the brace of carbs have been firmly mounted for 20 years.

Anybody wrestled such an alligator? Any suggestions?

Thx,
Puddin'

Pour boiling water over the rubbers to soften them. It's a pig of a job,
sometimes.

Lordy, Mercy, that's worse than the Mikuni's on my old '73 Yama tx650.

I *hope* the rubber monstrosities are re-usable after being
par-flogging-boiled. :-)

Are there any Nipponese mot'cycles with real (good, durable, metal)
intake manifolds? <g> Surely the Gold Wings ...

They are. It just softens the inlet rubbers enough to give you some
wiggle-room, as it were.

How hot do you imagine they get when the engine is running? A
little hot water won't hurt them one iota.

I got 'em off OK. The boots look usable.

Much Thanks,

Keep wigglin.....there should be a groove on the carb intake that will
kinda "lock" it in place so it stays securely.....or you can lightly tap the
carbs off with a mallet and a long piece of wood strategically placed (so
you don't break anything off the carbs).
