'83 Virago 750 oil leak

I have a chance to buy a 750 Midnight at a reasonable price but it has
an oil leak from the sump. The owner believes the case has to be split
and that it's a fairly simple job. Anyone any experience of this? Does
it indicate other problems? Is it a straightforward job for someone
with reasonable tech skills and a good toolkit (ie no special tools
needed)?

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's not something the less experienced mechanic would look at as
"simple" at all. Apart from any mechanical difficulties (and no, I
can't advise on that but remember that there is a gearbox and two
cylinders involved) there is a lot of work involved (heaps of kit to
remove before even getting started on the main job) and a big
stack of gaskets to buy.

Many thanks... that's all I needed to know!
