Flexifuel motorcycles yet?

Flexifuel motorcycles yet?

All vehicles need to be multi-fuel by mandate. Tariffs need to be
removed from imported alternative fuels and fuel crops like sugar cane
by executive order.
Then the one trillion dollars we give to the Arabs and terrorist oil
producers will be diverted to poor third world agricultural countries
and give us a diversity of cleaner fuels like ethanol, biodiesel,
methanol and others. If every car burned everything, alternative choices
will follow. Service stations would diversify offering gas and ethanol,
gas and biodiesel, gas and methanol etc... We would be helping poor
countries and our country, giving us options and drying up terrorist
funds. OPEC just waists our money and helps no one.

I'll bite.

It's not that simple. I aggree in priciple that alternative fuels should
be an option but the impact will cause more problems then it will fix.
Feed stocks for alternative fuels, be they corn and sugar cane for ethyl
alcohol or soy bean/oil will divert food stocks to energy.

If you think people hate us now for burning fossil fuels for the Sunday
Joyride, imagine how they will feel about us when we burn food for the
same purpose while they starve.

More to the point would be why we are compelled to use so much energy in
the first place: 50 mile commutes to jobs, poorly insulated
houses/homes, truck/SUVs to haul sport vehicals/trailers to remote
recreational areas.

Rumor has it that Al Gore, Nobel Prize winning Al Gore that is, spends
up to $3,000/month on utility bills for his mansion and flies around in
a private jet. I'm pretty sure he admits to ~$1,500/month electrical
bills. Think about that next time you do your once a week fill up with gas.

There is an excellent observation!

It's not like we got here overnight. Americans' love for their motor
vehicles has grown over the course of more than a century and, for most
of that time, the energy cost was quite low. It's probably unreasonable
to expect 10's of millions of people to change these ways overnight.

I am no fan of Al Gore, but I find this line of thought provocative.

There will always be those who use both more and less energy than oneself
and, by itself, using more energy than others is not grounds for indictment.
What is reasonable is to expect one's accomplishments should be commensurate
with the energy one uses. Despite disagreeing with his agendas, I don't
find Gore's energy use despicable as he is an ex-Vice President of the
United States who is still very much a public figure and in demand for
public appearances and such.

I supose I'm just too far right of center to expect socialistic distribution
of wealth and resources.

My point was aimed more towards the duplicity of the man. There are
plenty of examples of left leaning people like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ed
Begley Jr. that actually do things like drive electric/hybrid cars.

There are probably more good issues here then I can think up. Al Gore is
wealthy because among other things, I estimate he receives ~$250k/year
pension benefit from the tax payers. I would be satisfied if he just
said "We have met the enemy and it is us!" in regards to his
environmental policy and returned the Nobel Prize. Failing that,
insulate his friggin house and turn the thermostat to 68 in the winter
and 78 in the summer. I mean the guy uses up probably five times as much
energy as an average household! This is not conservation!

Yes, based on rumors, thus of no value.
But,
I wonder how it comes I never heard Al say these things when he was
VP.

Did you have all of your ideas in any one eight year period?

MY GOD! I have defended Al Gore twice in a row!

nice rant, but fraught with half-baked opinions and berift of anything
approaching reality. Flex-fuel is lame half-measure as it diverts food
production (see tortilla riots) and it requires a substantial amount of the
eventual energy to produce flex-fuel. Eventually hydrogyn will power our
motor vehicles so our energies should be focused in that direction. As to
government bans on petro-fuel, let's leave that to the totalitaeian states.
