Open up your idle mixture screws 1/4 to 1/2 turn to get rid of the
deceleration backfiring.
The idle mixture screws are located on the underside of the
carburetor, forward of the float bowls.
They are concealed behind EPA anti-tamper plugs which can be removed
by carefully drilling a
pilot hole, threading a small sheetmetal screw into the plug, and
pulling it out with a pair of pliers.
The anti-tamper plugs are very thin aluminum, so a heavy hand on your
drill can cause it to break through the top of the plug and hit the
idle mixture screw itself.
The first time I drilled out anti-tamper plugs, I wrapped masking tape
around a small drill and twisted it with my fingers.
