Nikon Busted For Industrial Espionage!

Nikon Busted For Industrial Espionage!

Nikon was caught stealing lens design and manufacturing techniques from
Canon and incorporating them into their latest lenses. After conclusive
tests it has been determined that Nikon is using the same formula for their
space age material as Canon. Even little subtleties in the lens mount have
been stolen from Canon. This is going to be a major blemish on Nikon's
reputation.

Bit OT, but for anyone that's interested, how a Canon lens is made (video is
in three parts due to youtube restrictions):

Now that was a cool video. The only thing that troubled me about it is the
lack of QA in the manufacturing steps and the careless attitude of Canon
letting workers assemble these lenses what appears to *NOT* be a clean room
and the worker lacking a hair net and gloves. Might as well assemble the
old 500 out in a dust storm.

I wasn't looking to see if the person assembling the lens was wearing a hair
net, but I did notice 'condoms' were used on the fingers.

I also noticed that in at least one scene, the worker is not using
"Finger Tips" to handle the lens. Nice way to get body oils on the
lens.

I suspect that this might be from some sort of training film done
outside a clean room. Strange as it seems, they might not want video
cameras taping inside a clean room. I have worked in a clean room
before, and the regulations were quite strict on what could be brought
in.

Yes, that didn't set to well with me. Makes buying a $5,000 lens really
reassuring.

I'm not so sure it would be a training film done outside a clean room.
Taking a camera in a clean room can be a trivial feat if it is prepared for.
My suspicion is this, or any video, would have been done with the best
techniques and methods available to highlight their strengths. This video
did the opposite. It is what we don't see that worries me. For all we know
the tech could be salivating and dropping rice from her mouth over the lens.
Maybe a good sneeze?

Now I like the japanese even more. Now I see why it's impossible to do any
repairs in any high-end appliance. Who can match the skill of these
technicians? Well done, kyanon again (Canon in japanese). (My Pixma iP 4300,
its original cartridges and paper are made in japan, probably one of the
last products to do so).

On the contrary. I'm glad to see Nikon have a FUCKPAW with this lens as it
will drive the price of classic Nikkors up. I'm a bit disappointed in Nikon
opting to follow Canon's lead on sub par pro lenses with plastic barrels and
short screws.

"story" says a lot here... much of what gets posted on this forum is
closer to fantasy :-)

I did. Your link doesn't work. It identifies a forum but not an
article.

Rita doesn't understand computers any better than cameras. Apparently it's
just point and push buttons.
