Can manual focus Nikkors be used on a D60 or D40?

My duaghter is looking for a digital body and already has a few manual
nikkors. Will they work on the newer digital bodies?

Thanks.

AI and AIS Nikkors will fit the D40, D40X and D60, but the light meter
will not work. You can use a separate light meter and make manual
exposures.

Obviously, these lenses will not offer autofocus on AF bodies.

On the D40/D40x, D50/D70s, D80, and D60 the MF lenses (if AI or AIS) will
mount but the meter won't function. So you will have to use an external
meter or guesstimate/trial and error for the exposure. Higher end Nikons
like the D200/D300 and the D2x/D3 will meter with the MF lenses.
