Insurance for photography equipment - Help

Dear all,

I live in Gibraltar and will travel to south america later this
year. I have looked for insurance companies that cover photography
equipment, but to date all the companies do not offer insurance for
someone resident in Gibraltar (an EU country, but this does not seem
to matter...).

Does anyone know a company that will underwrite a policy for
photographic equipment for a Gibraltar resident, or provide a
household policy for here that covers cameras/lens that does not have
a cap on it : This is usually between £250 and £500 for a single
item. All my lenses and bodies are over this figure.

Regards, Si.

Being a USA resident I would think the Lloyds Of London would provide
a policy to your liking. Don't know about cost or any laws involving
insurance coverage in overseas countries. But you need to ask your
insurance providers.

Good luck,

Insurance for photography gear may be purchased as a rider
to your home insurance in any amount just as insurance for
precious metals, furs, fire arms, collections, etc. are. Be sure
to ask how much protection you have "off of the premises."

Hi Si,

You might like to contact some of the UK insurers who routinely offer
pan-EU and worldwide travel cover to people who reside in the UK. They
may be able to tailor one of their products to suit your residence in
Gibraltar:

* w w w .photoguard.co.uk/
* w w w .aua-insurance . com /Photographer-Insurance.shtm
* w w w .eandl.co.uk/camera-insurance/
* w w w .photographywebsite.co.uk/photographic-insurance-c23.html
* w w w .aaduki . com /
* w w w .winsoverhowden . com /

Here is a list of companies in Gibraltar offering general insurance.
You would need to contact them individually to find out if they offer
photo equipment cover (PDF file):

* w w w .gibraltar.gov.gi/gov depts/finance/Directory/GIA.pdf

Finally, contact your travel insurer and ask if they will increase
their cover to meet the value of your photo equipment.

Good luck!

Tony
