I've been in Sahara Camera Center, but they did not have the 70-200mm 2.8 VR
in stock. I found to shops on the strip near Harrahs, they would both get
US$ 1999 for that lens. As I know Adorama is shipping for US$ 1630, why is
that lens so expensive here?

It's tough to beat New York City big-store prices.....Many years ago, I new
a Japanese exchange student who was going home for a short vacation, and I
sent a copy of "Popular Photography", with it's big store ads along with
him. I told him to compare their prices with the ones he found in
Tokyo......When he came back, he told me that the prices in Japan were 20%
higher than the ones in NYC! We could never figure out why.......

meanwhile I got the lens from B & C Camera Inc, 4521 W. Sahara Ave. for
US$1795 which was comparable as I don't have to pay for shipping.

Yes, and if there is something wrong with the lens, you will be able to take
it back easily, without the hassle of dealing with someone over 2000 miles
away. I always prefer to deal with the locals, and I usually don't mind
paying a little more (10% ?) for the convenience...But it is getting
increasingly harder to find local stores that stock anything I need. I
purchased a 4 valve flugelhorn a couple of months ago, and I tried to buy it
from several of the local music stores without success, before I finally had
to go to WW&BW in Indiana.....None of the locals either had one in stock, or
were even able to order one for me. Several of them told me that the
manufacturer's rep wasn't even available to them.
