Are EOS EF-S Lenses Usable on EOS IX APS Camera

I am thinking of getting a cheap EOS IX body to use with my "digital"
lenses. I know the lens mount is the same and the coverage is
sufficient for APS-C. My question has to do with whether the rear
element of the EF-S would interfere with anything in the IX body.

Hello panabiker.

I have a 350D digital body and the IX and IX7 APS bodies.

The IX uses Canon's standard EF mount. This will accept your EF lenses but
not the EF-S lenses that fit the 350D, 400D, 450D and similar digital
(smaller than full-size sensor) bodies.

Pity about this - it would indeed have been very convenient to use the EF-S
lenses with the APS bodies.

EF-S lenses have a small (useless) flange on the back to prevent you using
them on FF cameras. I had a tech guy machine off the flange on one of my "s"
lenses to see what would happen on a 5D.

Terrible, absolutely terrible viganetting but croped down to the 1.6 factor
size it was intended for and it worked fine. It's a pretty common
modification and it had no effect on the lens other than to make it fit on a
EF mount.
