TLR experts, help?

Curious Idea popped up in my giant head... was there ever a TLR that is framed and
geared for 6x4.5 centimeters on 120/220 film? I mean... the orientation of the film
travel would be right, not like one of those Fuji 645's... any info? I think such a
model would be great to have!

There are several Rolleiflex TLR with 4.5x6 kits and 16 pictures per 120 film.
This includes the Rolleiflex T and the Rolleicord Vb

Wait till you go from horizontal to vertical composition with a TLR
without a prism. And if it has a 45° prism finder you will have even
more fun.

Sounds like it would be odd, though easier with a prism on. Thanks!

In Jerry Liebling's new (newly re-issued, I think) book "Jerome
Liebling: The Minnesota Photographs, 1949-1969", you see an entire book
shot with a 6 x 4.5 Rollei with a 90-degree prism. Jerry was one of my
photography professors and he always said he didn't care at all about
equipment, and that he was a cheap bastard. He bought the camera because
he could get 16 images on a roll of 120 instead of the usual 12. That
was the primary reason he bought it -- and I believe was the only camera
he ever used.

He kept it in his office on a shelf under the pics of JFK and Stevenson
he had shot while on his first Fullbright.

I believe Flexaret also had an adapter to do this. If you're looking for a
vertical image, many TLRs including the Flexaret and the Rolleiflex had 35mm
(or 828) adapters which allowed a narrow and vertical image.
I believe there was a pre-War TLR that used 127 film to produce a near 645
vertical image (Foth?). However I would stay away from uncoated lenses.

OK I checked that out, a Rolleicord Vb will change to 6x4.5cm, too cool. And it
makes awesomely sharp pictures as can be seen on pbase, com too, so I bought that
16 shot kit on eBay... now for the perfect Vb to come along. Thanks for the advise.

With manual focus 645 SLR's going for such silly money these
days, I'm not sure there'd be much interest except for
collectors.

Right, but the previously mentioned Rolleicord Vb can do two sizes of medium
format, like the Bronica sq ai. At those prices and quality of the camera as well
as the sharpness of the lens, I find it quite desireable. Film can do things that
digital cannot do, in a pinch.
