mats/frames for 4x6, 6x9, 8x12, etc

I keep running into the problem that
after carefully composing a photo in the camera,
when I go to have it printed,
well, if I want snapshot-sized,
the labs have finally caught on the idea of 4x6"
(instead of 3x5"),
but if I want something I can put into a mat
and have framed, I have to lop something off
one or both ends (or the top and/or bottom).

I can find a very few mats made for, say, 8x12;
almost none in any other sizes at this ratio.
And, likewise, there is a small selection of frames
made to fit those mats.

I can probably manage to put together custom-sized frames,
but (a) that's really not how I want to spend my time,
and (b) it still doesn't address the issue of mats,
and I *really* don't want to start cutting my own mats.

What do other folks do?

1. Compose the photo based on the finished frame/mat size. Inside my
viewfinder, I have drawn on the ground glass crop lines for 5x7 and 8x10.
2. Put together custom frames
3. Cut your own mats.

Kodak is currently working on a latex/vinyl based photo 'paper' that will
allow the final image to stretched in any direction up to 20%. You will be
able to buy a standard frame and simply stretch your finished photo to fit
the frame. This will also be a boon to the more 'ample' subjects: stretch
the photo vertically and make the subject look thinner. This product is
expected to be released on April 1, 2008.
