Question: Comparison of Compacts

12 months ago I asked here what the best compact was . I was
recommended the Panasonic TZ3.

Now that the Fujifilm F50/F50FD is out , I am ready to purchase and
would like to ask the people here about a comparison ?

Any help appreciated .

Peter

DP Review's site can provide a comparison, but they're different beasts.
Fuji is a little better at higher ISOs, but the Panasonic's much wider zoom
range make it a more useful camera for some. There are reviews of each here:

take a look at the sample photos and you can probably choose the one that's
right for you.

The best for all practical purposes IMHO is Panasonic FZ18. Compact and
light-weight---but won't fit into pockets. Zoom 28-504 (18x). Best
price $299.

If you need pocketability and respectable zoom can live without manual
controls, then the best is Panasonic TZ3. Zoom 28-280 (10x). Best price
239.

If you need pocketability and manual controls, but can live wothout a
long tele zoom, then the best is Panasonic LX2. Zoom 28-112 (4x). Best
price 319. The same camera sells under Leica name for around $600!

The best prices I mention are from only a couple days ago when we
researched this for a family member.
