Advance Check-In?

Has anyone used the advance (24 hour) on-line check-in service?
I'm looking at British Midland's, Heathrow Terminal 1.
The luggage then apparently goes into 'Fast Drop' or something similar.
Seems it could well save time.
But does it work?
And does your luggage end up coming with you!

Yes, it's pretty much the same as checking in normally, except you get
asked the security questions and get allocated a seat beforehand. If
you do it at the airport sometimes it prints off your luggage tag too
so you affix it yourself.
